Winter Break tv DVD watching suggestions?

Earth 2 is a fun beautifully shot show. :)

Gilmore Girls is still better than most shit, but seasons 1-3 or 1-4 are best, 5 and 6 lost their way BADLY and season 7 (the final year) spent half of it trying to clean up the mess and it has a good finale.

Have you seen Rome yet?

What about the miniseries From the Earth to the Moon and Band of Brothers?

Definitely Dexter. Also Entourage, Big Love, Breaking Bad, Sons of Anarchy and Carnivale.

Mad Men if you aren't easily bored. Oz if you have a strong stomach. ;)

I've seen Rome.

I watched FETM on VHS and loved it but not up for a rewatch and as a military man BoB is must see tv. :>))

The Wire is a show I always recommend since I first watched it half a year ago.

I've heard it mentioned before. Isn't there a new business setting or something each season?
Yes, each season has a "theme", but I would more call them additional business settings, that affect the ongoing story, as opposed to replacing it. The main plot of the show is always the ongoing drug war between the city's drug dealers and the police.

Babylon 5
Farscape
Firefly
Lois and Clark The New Adventures of Superman
Seinfeld
Cheers
Fraiser
Battlestar Galactica (old and In my view, better version)
The Simpsons
Futurama
Quantum Leap

All older shows, I know, but you didn't specifiy what era you were looking for

1. The Wire

...pretty sure this is one that hasn't been mentioned yet--I only got into it a few months ago, but voraciously devoured each and every episode--I finished all 60 episodes in a little under a month, a first for me.

However, I must caution that it's a pretty demanding show, in that you have to be paying very close attention to what's going on--this is a show that assumes its viewers are intelligent and able to grasp subtlety.

edit: my bad, The Wire has been mentioned a bunch of times...still, I highly, highly recommend it...

The Shield, The Wire, The Sopranos and Carnivale. That'll cover you for the winter. All four shows are amazing and I've listed them in order of my personal favorites.

Comedies
Arrested Development
Everybody Hates Chris

Drama
In Treatment
(Although this is a bit of a commitment. The first season is 45 half-hour episodes.)
