Reinstalled the Creative driver & console launcher. I get sound now, but it thinks the rear speakers are the front and I get nothing out of the actual front & center ones.
Even with it set to 5.1, it only shows the 2 speakers as active.

Actually, I found that I am also having problems with the sound in XP now. Not sure if it has anything to do with W7.
With the plugs in the right places, I'm getting nothing from the rear, and during testing, I get the "rear right" & "rear left" sounding through the front speakers and the "front left" & "front right" through the front speakers as well. "center" comes through the center speaker.

Trouble playing video. Horizontal lines scrolling down the video as it plays, while the audio 'pocks' when it plays. Was using an H264 codec with AAC Stereo audio, 48KHz.

    *May* be a codec thing.

I don't see how W7 could affect XP since I suppose you used different partitions for the installation.

Anyway, the worst thing about W7 so far has to be Internet Explorer 8.
I can't use it without wanting to smash my pc.
Back to Firefox it is then...

^ I've always felt that way about IE (or...aaiieeee!). Been using Firfox, and before that Netscape, for almost 10 years.

And I have W7 on a separate HDD altogether.

On the dual-boot subject, how do I get XP back to being the "primary" boot rather than having to choose it over W7?

Try this while your are in W7

Go Control Panel --> System and Security --> System
Choose Advanced system settings from the column on the left
On the System properties window that pops up choose the Advanced tad and click on settings in the Start up and Recovery at the bottom.

There at the menu of Default Operating System choose Windows XP click OK and Ok and that should be it

IE8 is actually working extremely and surprisingly well for me.

    Surprising.

I'll wait to make sure that Windows 7 doesn't suck as much elephant balls as Vista does, before I switch from my awesome XP. The fact that there are already a few problems with it, makes me think that maybe Microsoft just wanted to release it, so they could make money selling a new OS that wasn't cursed with the name "Vista".

Your "awesome" XP was slow and buggy until SP2 shipped back in 2004. Vista has been running well on good hardware for over a year now.

I have those conversations all the time

Them: "You use vista, it sucks!"

Me: "works fine, never had any problems. What did you find wrong with it?"

Them: "huh? I've never used it, it sucks!"

Vista (now) is a solid and reliable OS - I have absolutely no problems with it.

No it isn't, you have to switch to [insert alternate OS here] otherwise I'll get pissy at you for no reason, blah blah blah.

    I hate computer users sometimes.
