It's out tomorrow - you will be able to get it from here: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-7/default.aspx It's a nice OS, I've been using it for a couple of months. Thing to watch out for - there is a problem with WMP12 that will strip out the first couple of seconds of certain MP3.
I've heard it's really slick and quite polished for a beta, and improves greatly on some of the basic things that Vista got wrong (file copy, etc. etc. etc.) I'll check it out ... (though apparently mp3s won't play? MS promises a patch very soon...)
where do i download it? there didnt seem to be a link? personaly i just tried mac on the pc it works well on a far older n slower cpu than my vista(msvirus 2007) needs and runs badly on is it ok in reality? does it need 700tb of ram just to run the sidebar? :P
I didnt even realize they were this far ahead on windows 7. I guess Vista is a bigger flop than I imagined (though I've never had any real issues with it). Anyword as to if its going to be less of a resource hog than vista?
yeah, the system reqs that I saw were like 1gHz processor 1Gb ram 16Gb hdd space 128mb DX9 video (for aero) I'm starting to wish I had a spare machine to try it on
It would be nice if it works better than vista using less ram, XP needed 1gb to function reasonably vista needs 2gb min to run ok. yet ubuntu linux needs and uses half that and its getting very slick
Can't wait for it One annoying thing about Vista that is driving me crazy lately is that it likes to change folder views randomly and wiill not remember my folder view settings and window position and size. It constantly likes to change my columns in my folders by adding its own fields, and it really likes to change between thumbnail view and detailed view, won't remember my detailed view setting which I have applied to all folders, ugh.
My biggest annoyance are those stupid security ownership settings. I have a ton of harddrives lying around and whenever I plug the damn things in I have to go through the trouble of changing the stupid ownership settings so I can access my own damn Harddrives
Vista's problem is perceptual rather than technical... lots of people think its worse then it actually is, which put a big hurt on their sales. But yeah, I've heard a lot of really nice things about the beta of 7, one review called it the most polished MS beta they'd ever seen. So I'll have to give it a shot!
I have one that I plan to test this on, but at the moment it's with my oldest at college. He's using it as a stop-gap machine while his laptop is in the shop. Once I get it back though, I plan to get a Western Digital 1Tb internal HD to use for this.
Its not external harddrives that it happens with, its with internal harddrives that already have data on them. The issue doesnt crop up with new harddrives either.
There is functionally very little different in 7 (there is the idea of "libraries") but the eye candy is very nice and the new taskbar is a snip to get used to.
