Please point out any homophobia for me.

I wasn't speaking about that stuff. I am speaking about the lawsuit on compelled speech. Granted I know that is a issue that is also kind of confusing because Canada's free speech rules are different than in America but that is the thing that sort of made him first be noticed. The self help guru stuff is basically this other aspect of him. I'm not even saying he hasn't helped people. I still remember Farrakhan's Million Man March back in the day and that guy is a raging anti-Semite so it's possible he has helped people but at the same time I think he has some troubling views as well. Some he doesn't outright say but you kind of suspect is their.

I don't know the guy in question but I have an issue with condemning people for things they didn't say but that you "suspect is there" or "assume is there" or the "that is just being used as a codeword instead of saying what he really thinks". Just one of those things that bothers me.

Well it's not possible to not form opinions or impressions when you read and see stuff about someone. Also I don't condemn him in the sense that I don't think he should be censored or even this modern take on censorship were you try to cancel someone. If people want to silent him then silent him with better opinions. I like to think I am a pretty objective person but I also know people can have some really terrible views so I am not so objective that I am blind.

I think Twitter and Facebook both have their uses, but there are a lot of whack-a-doos out there and if your accounts are public, and especially if you have any level of name-recognition, they will find you.

Yeah....... About that yeah.. I have learnt that lesson. And being a semi public figure can be a curse.

I made a joke on Twitter to someone who -knew- me, and he still decided I was a racist and would reply to random tweets I made for the next year or so insinuating I was a racist before he finally unfollowed me.

Oddly, it never occurred to him, apparently, to flat-out ask me whether I was a racist, or anything along those lines.

Yeah doesn't that just give you the shits?

I know people like that who I see in person, who have my number and all and can contact me but they'll argue online rather then ask me something in person.

Anyone who would rather make a harmful assumption of another person than ask a straightforward question of them gives me the shits.

First mistake is going to Twitter. Twitter makes YouTube comments look like Mark Twain. I say get out. Get out before it's to late! Cruz has figured this out and so have others.

Essentially, it boiled down to professionals (and I use the term in the strictest literal sense of "one who derives one's principal source of revenue from a given activity," because their attitudes were anything but professional) publicly flaming amateurs (again, I use the word in the strictest literal sense of "one who pursues a given activity for the love of that activity; I'm starting to sound like John Houseman, in the made-for-TV movie, Christmas Without Snow) simply for being amateurs.

And I said, "nest of vipers," not "cesspool." Don't insult cesspools.

BTW, the first rule of edible printing is, "you don't run anything but edible ink in that printer"; the second rule of edible printing is, "You DO NOT run anything but edible ink in that printer." And you still don't talk about Fight Club. Oh, yes, and "disco dust" is not good eats.

When I left Cake Central, I also took down every cake picture I was hosting myself.

Man, I was really hoping for some sex and violence. What a letdown.

One is easy and the other involves an uncomfortable discussion.

Human beings will opt for easy.

Good thing I'm not a human being then. :p

This human being will opt to try to assume good faith, ask questions when good faith reaches a threshold of becoming difficult to assume, and then opt for easy.

I should clarify my point. Humans are capable of both but generally avoid pain. The ability to do better requires more conscious effort, more self-awareness and greater risk tolerance.

I wish you all the best in such endeavors.

I've found that trying to be more optimistic in general has made me a happier person, so it seems to be working out alright.

I retain a lot of pessimism/cynicism to be sure.

Here's a quote from Peter Capaldi
Hmm. I've never actually seen a single episode of Dr. Who, and never understood its appeal.

Until now.

I would also say that kindness is the essence of a lot of things. It's why Bilbo and Frodo were able to resist corruption by the One Ring for so long.

Sad to hear about Wilson Cruz leaving Twitter. It's ridiculous the toxicity online and hard not to be depressed about our society. Is it really that hard to be nice and respectful, even if you disagree with each other?
