Are you one of the hardcore fans who love series and characters that nobody has ever heard of? Kirk and Shatner are icons. I repeat, Shatneer/Kirk's return is an absolute no brainer.

Don't fool yourself. As far as William Shatner returning to the role of Captain Kirk for the current management of Paramount Pictures all boils down to the size of the paycheck.
And that's not a knock at William Shatner at all; but even at this point he wants to make sure he's well paid for returning to a role that he always felt negatively Typecast him in the eyes of casting agents in the long run. So for any return to that role, he expects to be generously compensated because Paramount will be making tons of money off of it well after he's dead.
I doubt that matters, as the people currently in charge of Star Trek seem to have no desire to bring him back, despite what some fans with overactive imaginations might believe or want.
All you’re talking about is buzz and ratings. I’ve yet to hear anything substantive about a story that justifies a 94-year-old actor reprising a role he hasn’t played on screen in 31 years.
A franchise that’s only capable of looking backward is not one that’s thriving. It’s a move of desperation to cash in on nostalgia.
Again, people just want the feels. Not depth, not substance nor story.

I don't care fi its a Picard S03 style episode or movie full of nothing but memberberries and nostalgia. I want that emotional high. It would be a tragedy to not see Shatner in the role one more time before its too late.

Captain Kirk is my favourite Captain by a country mile, and I absolutely loved Shatner's portrayal of him.
That said, the character is dead. He died the way he wanted, making a difference.
Would I get misty-eyed seeing him in the role one last time? Sure. But is it required? No, not if it doesn't make sense. I don't want to see him just for the sake of seeing him. Sometimes it's best to just leave things alone.
If they come up with some great reason for him to make an appearance, I'll happily watch along and probably roll a tear or two. But don't just shoehorn him into something just because you can.

I love Michelle Yeoh, who at this moment and for some time now has been more in demand internationally for films and television than Shatner ever has been at any given time in his professional career - "icon" or not.

The same applies to Shatner. If they stuck him in a project that didn't look good otherwise, I wouldn't bother with it.
