Will You Pay for Star Trek?

Will You Pay for CBS All Access to Watch Star Trek?

I don't know what the big deal is. If you have seen any Star Trek movie in the theater, you paid for Trek.

If you rented a Star Trek video back in the day, or if pay for cable, amazon prime, netflix, hulu, or any other web based programming to see any version of Star Trek, you've paid for Star Trek.

If you bought any kind of Star Trek media, book, or other products for that matter, you've paid for Trek.

Hell, if you have donated in any form to a fan-produced Star Trek film, you paid for Trek.

So, if one wants to see the upcoming Star Trek series, but feel like someone is "gouging" them for the $6/month for CBS All Access, they need to consider all that above. Especially since $6 barely gets you a combo meal at Jack in the Box these days, but get's you 4 episodes of Star Trek per month...basically $1.50 an episode.

As streaming services go, CBS All Access is cheap at $6 a month. The real question is whether or not I'll keep it when Star Trek goes on hiatus. Many of their newer and more popular shows don't seem to have their entire runs in the catalogue. Sure, I could watch every episode of Cheers or Frasier, and I may, but I'd rather watch every episode of Elementary, Person of Interest, and The Big Bang Theory.

I don't want to think about how many times I've paid for THE WRATH OF KHAN: in the theater (multiple times), for the VHS tape, for the DVD, for the deluxe DVD . . . .

And that's not counting the novelization, soundtrack album, action figures, and Hallmark ornament . . . . :)

Has any issue ever been put to rest by a poll on this board? Circle one:

No

I will gladly pay you Tuesday, for some Star Trek today...

Yeah, this is a no-brainer. I spend way more than $6 on way stupider, way more boring stuff than Star Trek.

Where do I sign up?

P.S. As soon as the Star Trek is canceled, I'm out.

Well, I won't pay $6, but I'll have a friend who will inevitably want me to watch the show and will pay the $6, dragging me to the TV many times. I'll watch every episode, but I will be sure to hate it. Also, my friend is rich, so he'll probably buy me a year's subscription at once, but I'll hate it the whole time. :shifty:

The preceding text is a joke. In actuality, if I like the pilot when I watch the broadcast, I will very likely get CBS All Access.

No. I watch very little television anymore and I won't pay for a streaming service just for one show. I can live without it and see it some other way if it manages to interest me some.

In a sense I already pay for Trek in that I support Star Trek Continues Kickstarter drives.

This, this, this!!! This, oh so very much! You nailed it. :techman: :techman: :techman:

I really can't understand why there are people kvetching over having to 'pay for Star Trek', when that's what most of us have been doing our entire lives!

Yep.

Without hesitating.

Also, after I watch Star Trek Beyond, I will watch the new pilot on CBS All Access.

Maybe. Maybe not by streaming, but probably. Eventually.

Did I say no? I meant yes. Except by "yes" I mean maybe.

We don't have the CBS app at all, but I'll probably buy the Bluray/DVD when it comes out.

I'm not in the US so the CBS service is not an option for me but of course I'll pay for Star Trek, why wouldn't I? It was already said several times, we already pay for Star Trek all the time.

So if it shows up on iTunes here I'll get a season pass, I already have amazon prime and netflix so I'd be happy if it ended up there but there's no way I'll pass on it just because of a few bucks.

It's always been that you need to pay to watch things (even downloading certain ways still needs an internet connection which one pays for or to just sit down and watch TV programmes back when that was all you could do) so the arse achingly boring comments about needing to pay for the new series is a non sequitur for me.

I answered yes by the way.
