Will we ever see a DC vs. Marvel video game?

Given the success of Mortal Kombat vs. DC, I think a version with Marvel characters would sell like hotcakes.

Wonder what the obstacles are to a possible release?

I might be way wrong on this, but wasn't Kingdom Hearts all Disney owned (in terms of characters)?

I'm pretty sure Disney doesn't own the Final Fantasy characters who do all the work in the game (first one, anyway...I haven't played beyond that one).

From what I understand, there's a pissing match between Quesada and whoever runs DC these days, so there won't be a comic book crossover any time soon, let alone a video game crossover.

I suppose that players could just make "Man of Spiders" and "Man of Iron" in the new DC MMO and get their crossover that way.

Yeah I'm not sure exactly how the rights were divided for the Kingdom Hearts games but Square Enix would never give up the rights to their characters.

While they're at it, I'd like it if they threw in Optimus Prime (G1 and 2007 film), Gordon Freeman, The Smoke Monster from Lost, Predator, Terminator, Robocop, Darth Vader, Gandalf, Captain Apollo (1978 and 2003) and......Ryu.

I think a marvel vs DC game much in the vein of marvel vs capcom or mvc2, 2D fighting game would be badass! I'm still waiting for mvc3, but capcom gave up the rights to marvel to ELectronic Arts, and they have yet to come out with a decent game except for the xmen and marvel utltimate alliance games

Yeah, there's plenty of both Disney and FF characters in the second game as well. I think, and I could be wrong, that all the new characters created for the games are property of Disney... but that's a separate issue.

It's hard to say who owns Sora, Riku and Kairi. I doubt Disney has any use for those characters, and yet the contract could very well of been written in a way that gives them the rights to them.

DC wanted to do a Daredevil/Batman crossover. Quesada said only on the condition that his boy Matt would be the one who kicks Bruce's ass. Basically he demanded the K-Mart version be the winner. So they weren't happy about that.

I'm pretty sure Kingdom Hearts was a Disney exclusive contract to use the characters. From th esounds of things-Quesada at Marvel won't let DC in on anything-shame, as DC v Marvel would grab my attention more than DC v MK, which I play...

Wow. I hate Quesada a little more myself now for even suggesting such a thing be possible. Daredevil kicking Bats' ass? About as likely as Aunt May becoming a herald for Galactus.
