Poll Will we ever get another Paramount movie?

Just to clarify something some people don't seem to have read in my OP, I'm saying do you think we'll get another Paramount movie...

No doubt there will be another Star Trek movie down the road, but say CBS merges with Sony Movies (loosely speculated by Variety as possible), they could be the team behind future films, rather than Paramount.

I don't think we'll see another Paramount movie. I've looked online and seen that any film that costs more than $100M at Paramount needs to get shareholder approval before it gets greenlit, and with many of those shareholders also being CBS shareholders, it's not impossible for CBS to simply strongarm for the rights back for what will be a better ecosystem for a Star Trek film.

CBS Studios Inc. is a winning team. Paramount Pictures isn't.

No, because the IP is tarnished, and the studio is in debt. The ONLY possible way would be if the STAR TREK franchise, all of it, was under a single management scheme with a single vision, where CBS can order up a television show while Paramount can order up a movie. And right now, everything is "up in the air" to focus on a singular direction. Hopefully, when things settle a bit, we can get back to business.

The last round of rumours, and comments from Simon Pegg and Karl Urban were that it was going to feature the Kelvin cast, presumably making it part of that world.

Paramount gave up on Star Trek after 2009. Letting 4 years go between sequels. Dumbasses. They just let the Kelvin franchise sink into irrelevancy without trying to make it great. Handled properly, Star Trek could have been at least a B-tier blockbuster franchise and we might be on movie 5 by now.

It's so frustrating. Time and again this franchise gets mismanaged and fails to reach it's potential. This series could and should be raking in 5-600m plus and like you said be on the 5th movie by now. Instead it's just fizzled out.

Even though I didn't like the Kelvinverse movies, there was enough in the first one to suggest that it could have worked as a series of films, but instead of getting better, they got worse. If they're over I'm relieved.

I don't think they've nailed making Trek work on the big screen since the original cast retired - much as I liked TNG, I didn't like the TNG movies either.

I think the best bet for any future movies would be to do them in conjunction with the showrunners of the multiple TV shows that are in the works. They could still be standalone adventures, but in that environment - kind of like the Marvel Universe.

I think Paramount were 100% behind ST'09 and ID... but by the time Beyond came around they were imploding, and shot themselves in the foot with a weak marketing campaign. Then even their "can't lose" Transformers franchise underperformed. Today's Paramount are backtracking on already agreed-upon contracts with Pine and Hemsworth, and taking ultrasafe options like releasing The Cloverfield Paradox straight to Netflix.

It sucks very much, but is it what it is.

What exactly is Paramount or any "studio" anymore? It's not like the old days with carpenters and staff writers and actors under contract. Each movie is its own enterprise and can be filmed anywhere, right? So is the thing called Paramount just a distributor now?

Franchises are intellectual properties of the studios, regardless of where they're physically filmed.

CBS / Secret Hideout should produce it themselves, with Paramount or someone better purely the US distributor.
