Will the new enterprise be larger than the TOS?

Do we actually know that the new bridge interior would not fit within the new bridge exterior, even if the new ship is similar in size overall compared to the TOS ship?

I personally think that the bridge looks as if it would fit in that ship as shown, even if it the ship was the same basic size as TOS. Sure -- it looks larger than the TOS bridge, but that's irrelevant.

^The engineering set has been referred to as very large and interestingly "industrial" so I think we're going to see something more like the TOS engineering just far larger, more open plan and active than anything they could manage in the 60's.

And with more brewery tanks as well.

:p

Spider and Shameless will be seeing this movie REPEATEDLY, then!

I hope so. We all know that size matter. Don't we?;)

It's not the size of the nacelles. It's the way they warp space-time.

Or that's what the chick at Utopia Planitia keeps telling me.

Truth be known, I think the new ship is the size of the TMP Enterprise.

Which is 'slightly' larger then the TOS Enterprise.

* But only ever so *

Use the original - The movie will get less viewers, hence trek will die

Use the new - More chance of appeal to outsiders, trek has a chance to live on

New design = win for all involved, including old-school trek fans.

To be fair, you just KNOW more than a few fans will digitally change and replace the Abramsprise with their own designs once they get access to the DVD, BluRay disc and other footage.

That's their choice, but I prefer to look forward to meeting new fans rather than the old ones.

And we can use and keep both. TREK is no longer at its apex. This isn't 1994 any longer. If this movie isn't a convincing hit, the franchise might be in severe trouble.

They won't be able to approach the quality of the movie effects, though.

Nope. But that never stops anyone.
It's not necessarily true that they wont' be able to approach, or even exceed the quality of the movie effects.

The movie effects are being made on a schedule, with limited time permitted to the creation of each shot. Granted, the extension may remove that limitation, but I doubt it... we're still talking about people and resources which all cost money, after all.

In the case of a home-rendered version, you're talking about (typically) a lot less processing capacity (though there are rentable renderfarms... more in Europe than in the US, but plenty to be found anywhere... which can remove that limitation). So, barring the use of one of those paid-use renderfarms, it will take a lot longer to create a single frame of "film." However... the skill levels of some folks in the non-commercial sector are equivalent or even better than those of the commercial, "professional" SFX artists. And there will be no "we have to have this shot done by Friday, 9:00AM" limitations, will there be?

So... I doubt that the "impossible to approach" statement is really true. Someone will do it. Some takes will be amateurish. Some will be near-professional. And at least one or two will exceed the quality of what we see on screen. It may take a lot longer for those to come along, though... depending on whether you have someone with the money and time to devote, unpaid, or not.

Like I said before, it doesn't look like the Enterprise, it looks like a parody of the Enterprise.
Doesn't look that bad, to me, really:

For the most part, I still prefer the original, but this new Enterprise is actually pretty slick. If this had been the original model they used in TOS, and the old ship were the new one, would you still think it was a better design?

I just love this design. I like it much better than the original. I don't think it is as good as the refit design but it is pretty darn close.

I think the nacelles will make or break the ship when it comes to public reaction. If they are modified somewhat in the next movie and streamlined/shrunk a tad in places you might get a lot of love for the new redesign. Because it IS very reminiscent of the popular TMP-era refit design we all enjoyed for so long.

The nacelles on this new design is one of the things I like the best about this new design.

See, I like the original best. Seemed the sleekest and most functional.

As for the nacelles - they're not that "big". They're wider at the front, sure, but they're about the same length and diameter further back as the originals. Look fine to me. My only issues with the ship's exterior are the secondary hull/dorsal proportions and placement.

I don't think it's better than the original, but It is surely on the same level.

I expect a lot on fan generated art with it and the refit in the same picture. :)
