We will see the Borg eventually. ENT left several ways the Borg and/or their tech could easily be encountered in this time period.

I just started reading the Boldly Go and Mirror Broken series from IDW and love them both. Never been much into comics but the the Literary Treks podcast review books and comics and they rave about them so I thought I would give them a go.

I'm glad I gave them a go.

The Borg are just zombies + locusts. Both concepts are older than dirt and still very popular.

The Borg are basic enough to stand in for just about any fear. They're a faceless, unstoppable force with window dressing. They can be climate change, or immigrants, or American imperialism, or runaway capitalism, or PC culture, or whatever.
