Will the BBC commission a new spin-off?

This...

Had Martha been a bit more universally accepted as a companion, the "Aventures of Martha, Mickey and Unit" would be a shoe in.. As for me, I like Martha, so i'd watch it in a shot.

Kind of like Torchwood but on a more global scale and unlike Torchwood, aimed more at the typical Dr. Who age group.

Yes, Clyde and Rani please.
Move them completely off Earth though and jump ahead 2-3 years, so we get a teen/young adult show instead of a children show.

Rani and Clyde sounds better! :P Because it riffs on 'Bonnie and Clyde'

I'm all for a UNIT spin off. It would have to be quite a bit different to Torchwood, to avoid being derivative. Martha and Mickey should be the stars.

Dorium. There's very little that you couldn't do with that character.

What? Being dead is just a temporary inconvenience, surely.

Nah, just save the money and do a series of one-shot specials.

I have to admit that the idea that the Earth is being visited/invaded on a weekly basis is starting to stretch credibility just a tad.

If you're going to do a spin-off, I think it can't be yet another "contemporary Doctor Who without the Doctor" series like Torchwood and Sarah Jane.

After "The Girl in the Fireplace," I thought that BBC should have commissioned a four- or six-episode series about Madame de Pompedour, starring Sophia Myles, and played it completely straight, except for references here and there to the Fireplace Man and possibly a cameo by David Tennant at the end. The BBC is really good at costume drama, this would have been very different than Doctor Who, and it would have been shown on Masterpiece Theater. :)

As much as I would love to see a Vastra and Jenny spin-off, I don't see it getting much viewership because it's such a narrow focus (lesbian alien/human duo fighting crime in Victorian times).

That is now my all-time favorite 1-sentence pitch for a TV series! Sadly, I don't think the BBC could afford the extensive corset budget needed to make the show work.

I still like the idea of a Jo Grant spin-off that has the same tone & demographic as The Sarah Jane Adventures but in a more globe-trotting format. (But really, I just want Iris Wildthyme to make a TV appearance. :( )

I love the idea of a Who show set in Victorian times, if only because there's the potential for Vastra and Jenny, Torchwood and Jago and Litefoot all making an appearance...then again the Victorian age lasted a long time, and without giving it too much thought it's possible these people/organisations might be decades apart. Although I think Vastra and Torchwood could be contemporaneous.

Even though I've only listened to The Mahagony Murderers so far, I'm sure there's a way to work around that problem with Jago and Litefoot, too, especially considering a certain spoiler I've read about the third series:
Leela showing up. Granted I don't know how she shows up (and don't tell me!).

Yes, ignore the problem. That's basically Alan Moore's solution in The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. Honestly no one has a detailed timeline when they watch costume drama.

too, especially considering a certain spoiler I've read about the third series:

It's not too mind-bending but you have to have some familiarity with another BF series (starts with G and rhymes with "free")

I never bothered with the comic series or the movie, but I know what you're talking about. That being said, I don't think it's really a big deal, especially in the world of Doctor Who.

Ah, well, that makes sense, certainly. Of course that brings up the question what happens in that series (as well as leading up to a certain trilogy). But that's not really for this thread.

EMH

All you need to know is that

Is that Leela is an agent for President Romana and they basically met during the Gallifrey series 1

Who met in Gallifrey Series 1? I don't recall Jago and Lightfoot meeting Leela in Gallifrey Series 1. If you mean Leela and Romana, they met, in Zagreus, I believe (I haven't listened to it yet, it's waiting for me), but, there are a couple of McGann's with Leela and Romana set before Gallifrey Series 1. At the beginning of Gallifrey Series 1, Leela and Romana are already fully acquainted

I think you're right.
My point was to show where in Leela's personal timeline Jago and Lightfoot season 3 occurs. I don't know about Leela and Romana meeting in Zagreus though you are right that Leela and Romana definitely knew each other by the time of Gallifrey series 1
