Will Shatner be in Trek XI?

With all the talk around here on this subject we need a poll to get the definitive answer. We all know that the general opinion on this site carries a lot of weight at Paramount. So what say everyone?

My personal opinion is he will be in the film and all this whining he's doing is a publicity ploy. I don't think he'll have a huge roll to play, but we'll see him in the movie.

I'm on the fence about it. I think he won't, but I will be pleasantly surprised if he is, so I voted no.

J.

I don't think we'll see him. If he's in there at all it should be a cameo at the end as James T. Kirk, occurring because Spock did something in the past that saved his life... a last shared moment of screentime between the mature characters.

"I don't do cameos."
Right.

At this point in his career (given its revival with "Boston Legal", his record album, and his Priceline commercials), and at 76, given the nature of this project, if they said, "Bill, come wave to the cameras for us one more time," I think he'd be all over it. (For the right amount of money, of course.)

I also think this is a PR stunt and he will be in it.
I'll be surprised if turns out this isn't BS and he truly isn't in it.

I'm going to say no.

The script, as written, does not feature "Old James T. Kirk" in a starring role. They are not going to rewrite it now. Shatner (by his own admission), doesnt do cameos.

You do the math.

All this complaining seems genuine to me. I dont see the marketing ploy at all.

I think he'll be in it.

I think this is all a big PR media frenzy designed to generate interest in the movie - that's all.

I don't care one way or the other if he's in it or not. But I do think he'll end up being in it.

I would love it if he was, but I'm trying to not get my heart set on it. It would be better to think he won't, and then be surprised that he is, than to assume he is, and keep waiting to see him pop up, only to be disappointed.

It's fitting in a way. Spock was probably the first character to be cast in Star Trek.

Shatner wasn't there from the beginning, Nimoy was... and now he'll be there at the end.

I fail to see the big secret ploy as well. Far as I'm concerned its the first sign that they're on the right track.

I think it's better than 50-50 that he'll be in the film, briefly. It's a situation that screenwriter/producer Roberto Orci says doesn't yet have closure, and he seems sincere.

I don't want to have to pull this out come December '08:

so I voted yes. :D

( I am slightly expecting a brief appearance - he's whining way too much for him to genuinely not have been approached.)
