Will SFA Season 2 Actually Air?

That’s the real point, isn’t it? This is about subscriber base and engagement. The interesting thing is even though SFA hasn’t been a very popular series, it sure has been discussed a lot. What a lot of people don’t get is that even negative discussion is engagement. And sure, I’m certain there are those who use, um, less than legal means, to watch streaming Trek, watching the show on P+ does show as a positive for the series. While Skydance might have decided not to continue, more likely, enough people turned from SFA to not warrant renewing it. But with all the whining about streaming Trek, it took ten years, six series and 251 episodes to reach that point. So yes, SFA season 2 will likely air. Mainly because of Trekkie FOMO.
It's content that Paramount has paid a lot of money for - so yes, it will stream/air.

It's not a hit, but they loose even more money if they completely shelve it; and like everything else, once it's out there it has the chance to make more for them if/when they go back to licensing their properties to other streamers (the new type/replacement for 'syndication revenue'.)

What I’m curious about is how they’ll frame the marketing roll-out for the second season once that’s around the corner. Will they in some form communicate the fact that the show is cancelled and market it as “The Final Season” or something similar, or will they act like it’s just another season and not mention that fact at all? Will this be the most bare bones campaign imaginable or will they still shell out for a proper marketing push? I wonder if they’ll even get some of the cast to do a press tour for the season like they had for the first one. Might be a little awkward, considering they’re now all out of a job.

Anytime they call in cast for PR - it's either something they were in fact paid for as part of their overall compensation (and they and their agents realize this - and dates are part of the contract); OR they make a new contract and pay them for their time doing any promotional spots or interviews.

It's money to the cast either way.

I understand that. My question was whether Paramount would still get some of the cast to do promotional work, even though the show is cancelled. I realize that the actors or the producers are probably contractually obligated to do this kind of work, but I was just wondering if Paramount would even want anyone to go on a promo tour for a show they were no longer producing. I imagine any interview about the second season might become a little awkward the moment the interviewer broached the topic of the cancellation or a third season that won’t happen. I assume this is not the first show that gets a promotional campaign even though it’s public knowledge that the show is already cancelled. So I have to wonder what studios usually do in these situations.
