Will Quintos NuSpock Be Remembered LIke Nimoys Spock?

Zapp Brannigan has become more of a meme in the last decade than Kirk. Make of that what you will.

People remember all of the Bond actors, even Lazenby, so I don't see why not.

If we're going by how much news coverage and magazine articles they get when they die, I sure hope the actors aren't overly concerned about that.

Well, you can only be first once, but I think there is generally a very positive feeling towards Quinto's take on the role. The question of future legacy depends on events yet to come:
1) Abrams has shown that Trek is commercially viable and can stand tall among the summer blockbusters, but I don't think he has really re-planted Trek in the public consciousness as a thing of importance. The next film might change this, presuming (a) it avoids the superficial stylistic tics of the previous two, and (b) it doesn't suck.
2) I don't know if Quinto has attended any Trek-specific conventions. If he felt a connection with the fan culture (as the TOS cast eventually did), he might find a reason to commit to the role over a longer period.

Good point. And while people have been iffy about the various Bonds that followed Connery, Daniel Craig seems to be regarded as being right up there, so successor doesn't always mean lesser.

It may be a matter of putting yourself out there in that character, as someone who left a distinct mark. Quinto certainly did with Spock, for good or ill (depending on the viewer), but whether or not he has a long enough body of work as Spock to really cement that view of him.

It might just be me, but I don't think of Nimoy's Spock or Quinto's Spock. I think of Spock, the character, and the different views we have had of him. I think that speaks more to Quinto that I think of Spock as Spock, and not "Oh, he's doing a Nimoy impression."

Nimoy was spock though and will be identified much more with the chatacter. Nimoys portrayal was inspiring and did inspire many to get into science.q quintos version isn't inspiring in those ways and.is less memorabl

Inspiration can very from person to person. I posted this in another thread, but I actually identify with the character of Spock, and what his journey has been. Both actors have informed my view of that character.

I feel like I know Nimoy personally due to reading his books, but I feel like I know Spock better because of that presentation by both actors.

Quinto will ALWAYS be know for playing a character nicknamed after a fictitious maker of timepieces....i have spoken......

That's just your opinion.

As critical as younger fans are of TOS and the first movies now, in 50 years I doubt anything from this era will be held in much regard.

Of course, after the big EMP fries all the electronics and knocks out the power grid, there won't be much to be a fan of anyway.

I don't think so. Nimoy's iconic Character was just that. Nimoy established Spock and evolved him. Quinto is just carrying the torch established many years ago by someone else. Quinto is not breaking any ground with his Spock.

To be blunt, as one who enjoys both TOS and Abrams Star Trek: Who cares?

50 years ago, no one said: "Leonard Nimoy is going to be an inforgettable icon in the history of science fiction, and Star Trek in particular.". No one expected it. No one was gunning for it. It just happened. And I say this with the greatest admiration for Mr. Nimoy.

Same thing with Quinto's Spock. His character weight will be determined by future generations....not the here and now. His performance is widely enjoyed, but we'll see what the future holds. And I say this with the greatest admiration for Mr. Quinto.

No one worried about it 50 years ago. Why worry about it now?

Agreed. To add to your point as well, while we all have our favorite Bonds, comparing them usually never means outright replacing or being better known as Connery, because it's just silly. It's usually understood that while there are several Bonds, each one fills in a specific need for their time and movie. Going back to Craig, one of the main reasons why he's regarded as being right up there is because he's the Bond for the 21st century and embodies it so. That's hard enough to pull already, and doesn't need any comparisons to Connery to justify it. I feel that's why Nimoy and Quinto will remain separate but together, why (as you put it) successor doesn't mean lesser, and also why I feel that Nimoy gave Quinto his blessing and tutelage to begin with.
