Spoilers Will Picard have Irumodic Syndrome in new series?

Irumodic Syndrome had a prominent place in the series finale of TNG. With reports of a disheveled Picard distraught over the destruction of Romulus, will the illness play some part (whether in full onset or symptoms)? In the finale, Crusher didn't say anything hopeful about preventing/curing the illness even with foreknowledge of it.

Physical/mental illnesses have been handled in very different ways over the centuries, and I wonder if the writers would incorporate that into the narrative to tackle the issue in an interesting way.

I guess dangerous is how I roll. I don't think one could say Q gave Picard the illness. Everything pointed to it being something he naturally had. But for sure, ST timelines are an unreliable thing to go on either way. Irumodic Syndrome, though, might be one more way to make it a more nuanced show. For acting purposes, I think Stewart would take on the challenge wholeheartedly.

I'm not so sure it was entirely a Q fantasy. The other two timelines did exist and events in them did happen (until Picard started changing things because of his traveling). So, it's quite possible that everything we saw in the future timeline did indeed occur.

That definitely happened. Riker had the saucer lifted of Veridian III and attached to a new three nacelle star drive section. As well as other refits elements

That's never said in the show, Q really could have been sending him to a possible future, one that has changed because of him retaining his knowledge of the event.

Remember, other episodes of Trek showing potential futures set around the same time used the exact same uniforms.

Many of the most compelling episodes of all the ST series had to do with health issues, whether short-term or long-term, so I don't see why the writers would shy away from it, especially when it was clearly a genetic issue, not a Q issue.

It did happen, Q was responsible for Picard moving through time, and the consequences were dire. I doubt the subplot of the irumodic syndrome be in place because for me I would want a Captain Picard who's Captain Jean-Luc Picard than a feeble one.

They could use it as part of his character arc, i.e. a terminal condition that "liberates" him to act in ways he would never have done before. Think of it as a Breaking Bad scenario, in which Walter White's terminal cancer lead him down the path he chose.

In fact, the more I think about it, I suspect this series will end with JLP's demise.

Can't be. In AGT it was explicitely said that the Klingons conquered Romulus. The Supernova destroyed that planet.

So this calamity couldn't have happened in the AGT timeline. At least not like it did in ST XI.

In fact, the more I think about it, I suspect this series will end with JLP's demise.

Not to get too sentimental, but I work in health care, and seeing people overcome their illnesses or use them as a source of strength is as powerful as anything that could be scripted, so part of me hopes it doesn't get skipped over.

I would imagine that this series would include Picard's demise because Patrick Stewart is 78 years old, and we can't really demand much more from him. I doubt he's looking at doing it deep into his 80s.

I'm not hoping this but I think by the end of this series the so-called prime and JJverse will be merged and Picard will be the key to this CBS stunt.

I would love Picard to be battling his own failing mind as well as whatever galactic crisis that is going on. Plus, since "Irumodic syndrome" is made up, it can manifest however they choose. Flashbacks would the very nearly into "All Good Things" and give an opportunity for a recast Young Picard on the USS Stargazer.

Or they can just have Picard not knowing what's real and what isn't.

Klingons conquored the Romulan Empire, not Romulus proper. Seems like that would be easier after the destruction of Romulus by a supernova...
