Will Jaylah Replace Chekov?

I rather like having Jaylah on the bridge of the NCC-1701. I think that she would make an excellent addition. She would even give Scotty a run for his money which would be rather intriguing to say the least. What are your thoughts?

I'm all for that. Or a return of Darwin, who took his place when he was promoted to Chief engineer in Into Darkness.

It would certainly be interesting if they phased out the TOS crew and replaced them with new characters as/when real life intervenes or the stars choose not to renew contracts. Perhaps versions of Decker, as a fresh-faced Ensign, and Illia, his girlfriend from the Academy - could be the next additions?

Replace McCoy with Chapel - she was supposed to be the Chief Medical Officer on the refit Enterprise after all in Phase 2 until Kirk replaced her with his old friend.

I tend to doubt it unless the same creative team that did Beyond does the next installment. New writers and producers may go with an all-new character, IMO. Otherwise, I think Jaylah will quietly go away like Carol Marcus did from Into Darkness.

Aside from being a nice addition to the cast last time round, I think the fan reaction Jaylah had would merit a return. It'd certainly add the more inquisitive element to the crew. Jaylah's lived alone since she was a child, everything would be new and exciting for her to explore.

She'd actually make a perfect POV character who could represent the non-fans in the audience, an outlet for the characters to explain the essentials of the Star Trek universe like who are Klingons and why are they so pissed with us?

I'd rather see Jaylah in engineering with Scotty. We already know they have an easy rapport, and Jaylah is a skilled engineer. So IMHO it makes sense to put her IN engineering.

Considering your avatar, I can't help but appropriately respond with.... indeed!

On one hand that makes sense, but on the other... placing her on the bridge under Kirk surrounded by the rest of the staff could open up more opportunities, with any differences or misunderstandings being referred back to Scotty to deal with in a separate scene.

I don't know - it could be that there's a vacancy and it makes sense to put her there, but at the same time, keeping her in a comfortable and minimalist position (that doesn't really need filled - Scotty's there to do his thing, and Keesners there to aid) just means a lack of challenge for the character. Going somewhere comfortable is easy. Taking up that position opens more opportunities; both creatively and from a character viewpoint.

Or likely they'll just create somebody new. Having her or someone like her (new to the group, new to almost everything, the outsider, possibly another female character) would be interesting. They would have to fill either a plot-specific role in the film (as Carol did) or an empty seat (as Chekov did, and more)
