Why Weren´t There Two Picards Fighting Soran In The Final Fight?

Aike

I always assumed the reason why Picard didn´t go back and arrest Soran on the Enterprise was because there would be two Picards in the same timeline.

But then, why aren´t there two versions of him in the final fight?

One possibility is that the Picard-from-the-Nexus "overwrites" the earlier Picard.

David R. George III posits a different explanation in Crucible: Kirk: The Star to Every Wandering.

The producers wanted the Enterprise-D junked so they wanted Picard to go back after the engineering section had been destroyed.

You know, cos Riker can fire phasers to save his life.

Hehe. The reason there aren't two Picards in the final is because.....of the....uh...I think....Uh..I........It's because the movie was STUPID!

Actually, it's because Picard never left the nexus. He's still there, and the following three movies were all part of a Nexus fantasy in which he's a buff shoot-em-up action hero.

While you can make that argument, you then have to assign the last four seasons of Deep Space Nine to Picard's Nexus fantasy, as well as some of Voyager. If Picard doesn't leave the Nexus, then Veridian III gets toasted, so there are no Enterprise-D survivors.

From a Tommy Westphall standpoint, I like the idea (and I've entertained the notion myself), but it's impractical in the larger scheme of things.

Not necessarily with Deep Space Nine, since that was all Benny Russell's creation ;)

Good point we cant assume the Ent crew are dead and Picard is still in the Nexus because there are so many connections between the TNG crew and other Trek. Picard would have to have a really good imagination to just dream up the last 4 seasons of DS9!

How about this...

Picard was never in the Nexus. The rocket misfired, killing Soran on the spot and leaving Picard in and out of consciousness. As the ribbon passed the planet, Picard dreampt the events that were on screen. Kirk was never in the Nexus either, he died the way he was supposed to, a hero and alone, saving the Ent-B.

Now before too many get all excited, I know, I know, I know, this idea sucks too. But hey, at least its a little better than what we got. Plus it takes away all of the gaping plot holes and the slap in the face Kirk's death scene.

Yep..and they pulped it any way..so no one read it at all..

The writers and director didn't think through the implications of what they were doing ... on any number of levels. And the movie was pretty much garbage. Should have had Picard's double get killed, Kirk survives, the other two (Kirk and NexusPicard) beat Soran's ass and then Kirk goes off to find Scotty and Spock to have some more adventures. The Ent-D still explodes, too. I like the Ent-E better.

Ummm...no. This is why star trek fans are looked at with very weary eyes by the normal public out there. But I get it...I get why we do it, its in our blood..we're all goobers (including me) here at BBS. But gee people, you need to step back and see GENERATIONS, or TREKXI, or heck, even TEAM AMERICA for what they are...movies.

Now..I want every member of TBBS, including myself, to put down our X360 controllers, turn off our Bluray, switch off the 50 inch 1080p tv, leave our darkened rooms..and go jogging around the block tomorrow. Get some excercise.

"Its life Jake, and you're going to miss it unless you open your eyes.."

Those words were never more true than now!

I for one am really tired of reading, on the one hand, people just dismissing the movies, tv shows, etc. as just a bunch of crap that can be ignored at will and then turning around and calling the next movie a canon violation. If it's on screen, it's canon, regardless of whether or not you like it. IF it violates something that happened before, then it's still canon. Picard didn't have a double on Veridian 3 because he didn't. Who cares why?

It has nothing to do with the quality of the film and you can't just say, well the movie was crap so bleh....

You're quite the sheep, aren't you?

Oh, dude, STFU. Seriously. Why do people feel the need to randomly be holier than thou regarding the nerdiness of this board? Its a discussion board about Star Trek. WTF are we supposed to talk about here? The weather?

I really wouldn't mind chucking out both of these entire series. So its settled, Picard is still in the Nexus.
