Why wasn't The Next Gen even mentioned in the 25 year FOX anniversity

I watched this show almost all the way through, and I did not see any mention of Star Trek the next gen.

Did I missed something?

Wan't Star Trek The Next gen on FOX, and wasn't like the biggest show when it premiered?

Re: Why wasn't The Next Gen even mentioned in the 25 year FOX annivers

huh? I don't think it was a FOX network show.

Re: Why wasn't The Next Gen even mentioned in the 25 year FOX annivers

TNG was syndicated. Mostly aired on TV stations that were or became WB, FOX or UPN, I believe.

Re: Why wasn't The Next Gen even mentioned in the 25 year FOX annivers

Yes, TNG went a different route than TOS.

TOS started on NBC and was rerun on NBC, but then later sold into syndication where it could be shown on any TV station that paid. TNG didn't want to be tied to a network, so they went straight to syndication. When Fox first started, they didn't have a lot of their own programming, so it's not surprising that so many Fox stations bought TNG to have something to show.

Re: Why wasn't The Next Gen even mentioned in the 25 year FOX annivers

As everyone else has already mentioned, TNG was syndicated. That means it aired at different times and on different local stations around the country. The show may have aired on your local Fox affiliate station, but it had nothing at all to do with the Fox network.

If I'm remembering correctly, Fox expressed some interest in aquiring show initially, but refused to commit to a full 26-episode season.

Re: Why wasn't The Next Gen even mentioned in the 25 year FOX annivers

In my area, it aired on Channel 5 in Boston, which is an ABC station. It was on at 7, right before network programing came on.

I watched that special last night, fox did have a lot of Scifi shows, most never saw past the first or second season though.

Re: Why wasn't The Next Gen even mentioned in the 25 year FOX annivers

Yeah that's right. TNG was always syndicated, so stations could buy it and air it as they please rather than as mandated by network programming.

I think I may understand the OP question. When Fox network originally began, they only had programming for certain days and at certain times (mostly evenings and weekends, as I recall).

So whenever Fox didn't have original programming for their stations (say mornings and afternoons) each market could offer up anything else they had to air, which could be TNG. In my area, I watched TNG on a Fox channel in the off-hours, when it wasn't Fox programming--along with other syndication shows and reruns and local programs and whatever else the station aired.

If it's anything like my Fox station, they aired it at like 7pm on a Saturday.

You can be sure if it was a Fox show, something THAT highly rated would be airing in prime time on a Sunday or Thursday night.

Yeah KCPQ 13 is where I saw it 7-8 Saturdays, and if I missed it I could catch it the next day sometimes in the afternoon, and sometimes on CHEK 6 (CHEK 6 also came over the Radio ).

And then they put Lonesome Dove or somesuch on instead of picking up DS9 when TNG went off the air.

Re: Why wasn't The Next Gen even mentioned in the 25 year FOX annivers

TNG was ran at 9 PM every day on our Fox station. New episode on Fridays.
Then DS9 at... I don't know when it ran (at 10?), but after TNG went off, DS9 went on at 9 every day.

We didn't have UPN when Voyager went on the air. By second season, I think we had one...and then Threshold and then I didn't watch new Trek for 10+ years.

Re: Why wasn't The Next Gen even mentioned in the 25 year FOX annivers

That must have been it, it came on my sophmore year in college, and I thought it was a FOX show becasue it was on my FOX channel about 3 time s a week,

Re: Why wasn't The Next Gen even mentioned in the 25 year FOX annivers

TNG, DS9, Babylon 5 and Voyager all aired on the channel that would become UPN (Or already was UPN, depending upon what year we're talking) in San Jose California area. Don't remember for sure where Enterprise aired.

Re: Why wasn't The Next Gen even mentioned in the 25 year FOX annivers

Enterprise started in syndication (and aired here on our FOX channel on Sunday night) but, IIRC, either half way through season one, or at the beginning of season two it became one of UPN's "anchor" shows and was only available there. Due to the fact that UPN wasn't available in all markets, Enterprise took a hit in the ratings. I remember having to up my satellite package $10 a month just to get something that offered UPN. :scream:

Yep, KCPQ for me, too. Remember when DS9 premiered, and Saturday night was a solid after of Trek starting at 5:00 with Trek classic, 6:00 with DS9, and 7:00 for TNG? Good times.
