Why was it important?

Commander
Red Shirt
What was the meaning behind having Kira and Jake staring out the window of the promenade at the end of the finale. I have my own ideas but i want to here what fans think!

I always thought it was an homage to this moment from "Emissary":

In my view it's important because it reminds the viewer of how Jake is screwed now and is gonna obsess about getting his dad back for his whole life exactly how he did in 'The Visitor'. Which has similar scenes in which Kira tried to help him let go of his obsession, but failed.

So it really is an homage to this scene?

Yeah, seems likely, too.

I think it's an homage as well. But more obviously Jake is just looking out mourning his father and Kira is look at her celestial temple contemplating the actions of the prophets and the defeat of the pah wraiths. She's also probably considering the significance of having served for 7 years with the son of her gods, and looking back at all the signs of this that she missed over the years.

homage to the emissary-yes
also, to show that she'd prolly be watching over Jake until
Sisko returns.

Here that Paramount...until Sisko RETURNS!!!..
wink wink...nudge nudge
