And risk Chuck Norris calling for a boycott of Star Trek?

There might never have been a Wrath of Khan!

    Yup.

    Tactical silence moves mountains.

Something everyone forgets about, chekov held the rank of ensign for several years before getting his first promotion.

We're back to a canon debate? How can we the fans be expected to come to any consensus about what is and isn't canon if Trek's own creators and producers can't?

    This isn't about canon.

It's a question of who is a slacker and who is criminally complacent.

    Driver, and character.

Picard was a captain at 27... Over his Captains dead body, side stepping advance and promotions, he just said "I'm captain, anyone got a problem with that?"

Riker was XO of the Flagship by 27, but he probably had a lot of skull and bones backing him up from Pressman and the Pegasus.

Kirk was captain by 30, but he had Robert April guiding his career.

    Hey?

Could Kathryn get into trouble for not promoting people enough?

If they weren't in the Delta quadrant Harry could have transferred to another ship if he thought he was being unfairly overlooked or if Janeway had a rep for not promoting folk.

So Kim needs to suck up more to cover his deficiencies. If he can't do that, it's his own fault.

Either that or kill Janeway. ;)

Then suddenly Janeway has no crew and wonders why.

Harry claimed in Nightingale that if Janeway wasn't such a cow that, back home, by now, he would already be a lieutenant commander.

    She laughed at him.

No. But the only reason given for why she would suddenly have no crew is the suggestion that Harry killed her. The only reason I could squeeze out of it.

What I thought I was talking about is that if she was in the Alpha Quadrant, and she was still promoting none of her crew, then everyone would request to transfer to a different ship which they could actually find a promotion and no one would request to transfer onto her ship.

    Go back.

It's pretty obvious, and mostly your idea.

Nah, even lack of promotions would still get people wanting to transfer over. If you were Chief Operations Officer for a year, promotion or not, that looks good on a resume.

Well okay, I assumed the no crew comment was a reply to the kill Janeway comment.

Anyway, she might end up with more transfers than Picard and a reputation but the holes would be filled.

    Which Janeway?

Hypothetical Janeway who never got taken by Caretaker?

Admrial Janeway in an office on Earth.

Admiral Janeway who got another ship after her stint in an office on Earth?

I thought it was fairly obvious she's referring to a hypothetical Janeway who never got abducted by the Caretaker.

Except for the being dead comment which taps the novel continuity which is proCaretaker.

    Teacake is in love.

She sees the best possible Janeway available from second to second, no matter how hard she has to squint to see through time at the prime contender from the infinite assemblage of Kross khronal Kathys from all the pancaked mirror universes either side of this one.

I'd like Janeway a lot more if she just openly admitted she was evil. Honest dictators are always much more likable than closet tyrants. ;)

If Janeway was a dictator teacake could SOOO be her propaganda minister. :p
