There are lots of legitimate problems with DISCO. I happen to think the positives well outweigh the negatives.

But people just have very strong opinions about what they think Star Trek is supposed to be, and if you're married to those notions, you're just not going to like Disco.

Apropos of nothing, I'd like to add that Doug Jones has been the revelation of the show, for me. Having seen him in all sorts of things over the years I was expecting him to be 'Token Alien' on Discovery but what a great acting performance he's turning in, not easy under the prosthetic even with his experience. It's a shame people are missing out on it because Reasons.

Shame about that weird running on Pahvo, but that's hardly his fault

They made the most money of any Star Trek film ever with it. And when they went with an "all new" adventure in Beyond exactly like fans asked for, it did poorly and we never got another movie.

This is why fans shouldn't be allowed to dictate anything, ever.

And Into Darkness was awesome.

Love The Expanse. Don't see much of a difference in quality between it and DIS.

Really, because I find the former has WAY better thought out plot, world building, characters...though I'm not sure it's a fair comparison as it's based on novels.

I'm married to mine, but -despite it still certainly having issues - I did like season 3.

And Into Darkness was awesome.

I thought the twist in episode 12 or 13 of Season 1 was entertaining. It got me, but overall the vernacular used in this series, and Picard for that matter, is elementary at best. I haven't left one episode enlightened by works of literature's greats and admiration for well constructed series. I was watching one episode of Discovery where "Like" was used repeatedly in a sentence. "You Good?" is one of my pet peeves and is used repeatedly. Also, the acting is not very good. Along with the protagonist, the acting is not very good, and we are forced to watch the movie from the protagonists viewpoint and follow her around. What happened to the bridge crew? It's a weird way to show star trek. It reminds me more of a star wars, space opera type of film.
I enjoyed the parallel universe take, as we first saw in "mirror, mirror," but that's all I like about it.

I personally went to it expecting that it would be Gary Mitchell or something like that. Why redo Khan? And it doesn't even fit in that he was a warlord in East Asia after the Eugenics War. They didn't even talk about that. I guess in this alternate timeline they have same names, but different background stories, even Khan. I thought it was kind of a stretch.

What in the movie contradicts Khan ruling Africa and the Middle East in the 1990's of the Kelvin universe, just as in TOS? Pretty sure nothing.

The biggest difference to me is Khan in Into Darkness does everything to help his family, but in Wrath of Khan he didn't seem to give two shits about any of them except Joachim.

And really they're movies and shows made decades apart, expecting more consistency than say, different versions of Batman is a stretch IMO.

Another unfortunate component of the toxic fan hate is bigotry. I don't know how much of the haters fall into this category, but I see so much of it on Facebook that it is the first thing I think of when I think of the haters. They hate Disco because the lead is female.

Pretty sure everything. I only watched it once in theaters and don't have a desire to watch it agan, but I believe that Khan in this silly timeline was a starfleet section 31 special soldier. You should watch the episode "Space Seed." Of course Khan cared about his crew and his wife was a starfleet officer.

I've read many, many, many critiques of actors and writers involved with Star Trek Discovery that were both racist and bigoted. So in those cases it had everything to do with racism and bigotry.

Points of reference, please? I haven't read any. I'm sure if anyone looks hard enough in any subject, they will find racists and bigots. If the comments were critiquing the constant barrage of "We are going to have a cast of "colored" actors for the sake of having "colored" actors and acting be damned. Oh and let's put in some homosexual and non-binary actors too" then yeah, I can commiserate with posts like that.

Yup, no reason to redo him. No one even remembers the guy.

If STID did something right with a concept I wasn't hot on revisiting it's that Khan was indeed not the lead villain of the film. At least they showed the Augments' human side and compassion for their fellow kind and the raw emotion of Khan in protecting the other supermen and women from harm. Admiral Marcus was the best thing in that entire film and whenever Peter Weller is in Trek he absolutely kills it.
