I was wondering if anyone here has actually seen one of the command shirts used on set in real-life. Are they on display anywhere?
Yes, in the exhibit at the Detroit Science Center under what appeared to be white light. It was a season three polyester. It was not green. Nor gold. It was this weird Sixties color, greenish-gold, gold chartreuse.
It was almost olive, which can often look brown. Our GIs in WWII, who wore olive drab, were called "brown jobs" in Europe, b/c of their unis.
It's just this weird in-between color. But when Theiss had the opportunity to fashion the captain's tunic and the dress unis, he went with material/dye that was clearly green.

It goes with the blue they used imo; but I'm surprised -- judging by the '60s greeting cards announcing my birth in that most glorious of years (Batman, Monkees, "Revolver" and Start Trek) -- that the red for services is a straight up red. I would expect a bit more carmine (
