Or, since the timeline has been fucked with, why not use a poplular young Japanese actress to play Sulu?

Those 80's style touch panel displays that you saw on Speak & Spells and microwaves back in the day have to go.They want to move away from mostly anyone remotely having been involved with Trek. If you notice, there are hardly anyone working on this film that has had any involvement with a Trek project before. That includes behind the scenes staff as well. Which is kind of sad, I would have liked to have seen Mike Okuda working on this - putting in little references and in jokes in graphics and labels. I think they could have gotten away with at least using him.
Because John Cho has appeared in numerous successful movies and Garrett Wang is a nobody.
Hey bigot,I liked Harry Kim well enough most of the time...sympathized with him. But let's face it. Garrett Wang couldn't act his way out of a wet rice-paper baggie with holes already in it.

We are ripping on the guy's work ethic and not condescending his race.
What country are you from, anyway?
One of the run down neighborhoods of the Commonwealths?

BIGOT?
That has nothing to do with his race. Rice paper is fragile and tears easily...even moreso when wet, when its totally useless. Rice had nothing to do with any anti-Asian comment I didn't make.
What's wrong with you? If that was sarcasm, it failed.

When most people use the term "act his way out of a wet paper bag," you had to go add the adjective "rice" in front of it in reference to an Asian American actor.
Watch your mouth next time.
You have to be careful of what you say in this society. That wasn't about RACE. I use that term a lot to refer to ANY actor of ANY color or origin who can't act at all.
Believe otherwise if you wish, but its all FAIL. I've never harbored negative racial feelings against Asians.
I think you're TOO hypersensitive about language, my friend. Rice paper is a fragile thing that is easily torn and escaped from. Has nothing to do with an actor's race.

Using that term in front of an Asian American is like going up to an African American and using the term "niggardly" (which means "stingy" or "miserly") in front of him. It may be inadvertent from your end, but can still be interpreted as being offensive to the people who hear it.
The reason why the word "niggardly" is not in common usage today - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Niggardly
It's not like you would go up to a random woman stranger and use the word "bitch" in front of her to describe a female dog.
The same difference here.
I am glad you understand.Well, just take my word from what you know about me and my history on these boards. It wasn't racial. Sorry if you took offense, but it wasn't meant in that context by a LONGSHOT.
Garrett is excruciatingly wooden on screen and probably too old now anyway.
I am glad you understand.
I am glad you understand.
You're just spreading the "New Hope" around.![]()
Is that some "code word" for saying inappropriate words like "niggardly" in front of an African Americans is racially offensive, but saying "rice" as an adjective in front of Asian Americans isn't?I am glad you understand.
