Why no movie for Deep Space Nine??

I think a DS9 movie would have worked during the Dominion War. There was a lot of material there to be mined. I always thought the excuses as to why they didn't get their own feature film was unconvincing. I'd happily trade Star Trek: Dances with Wolves/The Last Samurai with a DS9 Dominion War-era film.

At the time, they were playing it safe. It's why ENT and VOY were pretty much TNG-lite. Say what you will about Abramsverse/DISCO/LD/PIC/SNW - they took risks with the Trek brand. They may have been hits and misses, but they dived off the deep end in a way that I don't think the TNG-era would have. NOW? I could see a show like DS9 getting a film. Then? No.

Plus, after DS9 ended, it wrapped up so nicely that a film would have had to undo all of that. Other than Bajor never joining the UFP and Sisko, everyone's story pretty much concluded.

I think Rocks and Shoals could have been done really well as a double feature/TV movie as you could easily have some of the previous episode with the mission behind enemy lines to pad it out and expand on the feelings and pressures within both camps.

Having a proper budget would have meant you could have sufficient extras to make the final shoot out look realistic (rather than the implied 10 people per crew) and give it some "Saving Private Ryan" vibes

I still have difficulties to imagine what a DS9 movie would have been about. I mean, sure, they'd have come up with something, but since DS9 wrapped most of its affairs up tidily, and even the loose ends didn't really need addressing, I'd probably still have the feel it was tacked on than an organic next chapter in the DS9 saga.

Rick Berman would want a movie that "just happens to be a Star Trek movie." Two characters would get all the spotlight (Sisko and Odo?) while all the other characters would get bit parts, throw in a Khan like villain and you're headed for a disaster. I don't think he'd give Ira Steven Behr full creative control of the movie franchise. It's probably for the best it never happened.

Berman is long gone from the industry, and anybody else who would be heading a DS9 movie/revival/reboot would be quite different, so no, I think that the scenario you've come up with is bogus.

Don't Know. Should have. Star Trek TNG got the Movie. Voyager was too long for a movie it would have been more than 1 movie. maybe the reason no movie for DS9 came out was cause too many episodes to through into a 2-hour movie

There was, but not really for the main DS9 cast. The Dominion War seemed like it had plenty of stories to tell away from DS9.

This is where I'm at. The TOS and TNG movies made sense in theory because none of those characters really had strongly defined arcs that went anywhere. Everyone on DS9 had a well-concluded arc, and every theme of the show was conclusively addressed and fulfilled. What possible point could there be to do a movie?

I would guess that "someone's killing the gods" storyline from the comics would be film-worthy; it brings back Sisko and reunites other characters, right?
That storyline seems waaaaaaay too comic-booky for a Star Trek show. Something about the idea of bringing together all the different pseudo-gods feels more like something that would happen in the DC Universe. I'm not sure Star Trek, as a TV show, really wants to take a hard look at how many goofy-ass omnipotent beings it has introduced over the years.

Unlike a few of you here in this discussion, I wouldn't mind seeing a new DS9 movie, maybe even one based on the recent IDW comic book (but with a younger actor as Sisko, the explanation being that the Prophets decided to make him younger in order to carry out the mission of finding out why godlike being such as them are being snuffed out.) I think that if the plot's good enough, people would be willing to see a DS9 movie, and even make it a success.

We did get a DS9 movie. It's called What You Leave Behind.
That's actually a good point. And it's probably good that it wasn't called a movie, or they would likely have penned a sequel that totally trashed the original ending (looking at you, MiB2 and Miss Congeniality 2).

Because we like DS9 and want to see more of it? Surely someone could come up with some stories to tell about these characters.

That's a big "if." I live DS9 and would be willing to watch a movie but I'm just not clamoring for it because I don't see the next step in the story. I can see individual characters in their own stories but not a DS9 story.

I'd rather just get an update. Something like...
* Bajor finally joined the Federation. Many Bajoran militia officers were folded into Starfleet, including Commander (later Captain) Kira Nerys.
* Sisko quietly returned to his family and moved into a home on Bajor with them. Having some future knowledge, he is bound not to interfere too much in the timeline, but will sometimes nudge things in the right direction.
* Chief O'Brien moved to Earth with his family. Molly joined Starfleet and became an officer, so her dad has to call her "sir". Kirayoshi, having inherited his dad's musical gifts, became a cello player. EDIT: And before you remind me that no one followed in Keiko's botanical footsteps... who says they only had two children?

You know. Snapshots here and there.
