Why no mirror universe episodes?

I would imagine that it was considered during one of the many table sessions the writers had in the past. Perhaps the general feeling was to stay clear of reusing TOS plot elements.

I would have loved a mirror TNG episode.

Roddenberry really wanted to stay away from anything related to the original series. It took a lot of convincing to get him to put a Klingon character into the show as he wanted none of the "old" races involved. Berman pretty much took that and ran with it though he did allow for some stuff like Sarek and Vulcans showing up.

IIRC, Jerome Bixby, who wrote the first Mirror episode, did at one time propose a sequel to it. I don't remember how far it got. He may even have written a spec script.

They did re-use TOS plot elements though during the first couple seasons of TNG, like the Psi-2000 virus, and others that I can't recall right now. I always wondered why we never got a continuation of the Mirror Universe. Perhaps they couldn't think of a good reason to get them back...they didn't want to repeat the Transporter accident. Diane Carrey's Dark Mirror is one of my favourite books. "Crossover" was fine and the episode that finally hooked me on DS9...

Jerome Bixby submitted a script for a ST:TNG sequel to "Mirror, Mirror" but it featured some original series characters (don't know which ones) so it was rejected.

IIRC, this was during the ST:TNGs 3rd season that he submitted the script.

they wanted to try new things and be imaginative, unlike most MT

This is exactly right. I am glad they didn't do one though. In my opinion aside from the original, Enterprise did the best mirror universe story. DS9 played fast and loose with the "rules" of that universe.

RAMA

Yes, I'm sure it was considered but wasn't able to get the idea off the ground.

I enjoyed the alt realities presented in TNG (Picard as a JG; The Federation at war with the Klingons...) So, while I wouldn't have minded a well written episode of the MU, I don't think it was needed

A TNG mirror universe episode was something I had always wanted to see. I really think TNG missed out on a golden opportunity.

Honestly, I always had a lot of problems with the mirror universe episodes in TOS, DS9 and ENT. Here's why.

They don't make any sense. Sure you can bank on the cheap "random/infinite dimensions/possibilities" theory-- but even this has limitations. If the timeline is THAT different, then it's damn near impossible that people would have procreated in the same ways, at the same times, with the same people, would have produced the same sperm and created the same offspring through the generations. In some cases too there's little to no reason why these other characters are evil, or how morality as a transcendental form could even have a definable polarity in this way. In the Ds9 episodes the character breakdown is a little different, but each person seems to have a mirror, not necessarily an opposite (even though that person could be deceased).

It's bad science fiction.

Agreed. It would have been kinda cool to see a TNG mirror ep though, if only to see mirror Q. Think of it!!

I was just thinking Parrallells was a mirror universe episode, just not a DARK mirror episode, Im sure there were some evil enterprises among those 280 000 that appeard tho.

I'd say Yesterday's Enterprise is the closest. A darker, more militaristic Starfleet at war. No counselors or the like. All it really lacks is the more savage aspects of the MU.

^ I would've loved an episode along the lines of Diane Duane's book "Dark Mirror". Though Iwould change the characters of Barcley, Data and Worf there in. However, I'm completely fascinated by evil Troi, who uses her powers to torture and interrogate people, rather than pussy foot around feeling pain

She became a bitch in one episode I think I remember her telling a depressed ensign "this isn't starfleet academy, your not going to be coddled, if you cant measure up they you dont deserve to be here..be prepared for transfer"
