Why is Neelix always so happy go lucky?

Yeah, that's what I mean, Rahullak - someone who makes you laugh on purpose, not someone you merely laugh at.

I am, honestly, not trying to irritate the Neelix fans out there (yes, there are some here on this forum). I am just hoping that if he really can be compared to the comic genius that is Lou Costello - or to the comic genius of your choice, if you're not an Abbott and Costello fan - someone can give me some examples. 'Cause I can't think of one, but that doesn't mean they don't exist.

Yes, but the difference is that both Abbott and Costello were funny - in different ways, sure, but both funny. In contrast, Neelix almost never made me laugh.
So because he wasn't funny to you, he wasn't funny at all?
Maybe you just have a limited sense of humor if it has to be explained to you?

^ No, Exodus - that's not what I'm saying at all. I'm saying "I can't remember a time when he was funny. Can somebody who does remember help me out?" That's what I was trying to say in my post above (#62).

Neelix dancing barefoot in the holodeck.

Neelix singing in sick bay to annoy the Doc. so he would allow him a place to sleep.

Neelix tearing up Tuvok's quarters having sex with a Klingon woman.

Neelix pronoucing Jalapenos-"Ja-lap-pi-nos."

Neelix talking about having kids with Seven and calling Seven kid "7of9.5" and then his reaction when she gives him a dirty look.

Shall I continue?

I'd like to assure you, again, Exodus, that I did not mean to offend Neelix fans. I in fact tried very hard not to, and I am only sorry that I apparently did not succeed. It was an honest question - I really wanted to know when you found Neelix funny enough that you could compare him to Lou Costello because I couldn't remember any instances.

And I still don't really. A couple of those you mention I found funny (e.g, "Ja-lap-pi-nos" and "7of9.5"), but not most of them. Sorry.

I love Abbot and Costello, however, if that redeems my sense of humor in your eyes.

Edit: I mostly found humor involving Neelix...forced and unnatural. Slapstick, and not in a good way. But hey, tastes differ. Apparently the writers agreed with you or they wouldn't have put those scenes in.

Well than please tell me how do you explain funny to someone that doesn't? You already made up your mind he wasn't funny to you, so no matter what example was given it wasn't going to change your mind.

So why ask?

I really and truly, out of simple curiosity about my fellow Trek fans, was interested in just one thing: when. you. found. Neelix. funny. It really is, I swear, just that simple. I couldn't remember finding him funny, and I still can't, really, but I knew some of you did, and I just wanted to know when. Really.

I wasn't attempting to imply doubt, I wasn't attempting to imply that you shouldn't, I didn't expect to be converted or to have the jokes explained to me. I just wanted to know. I just wanted examples.

Can't I be curious about something even if I don't share it? I hope so because I often am.

I got what you were saying. And I honestly don't understand why people get offended when people don't agree with them about humor. It happens a lot, not just online but off.

I found Neelix annoying, too. Not always, but often. I didn't hate him by any means, but to me a lot of the humor seemed more...at his expense, like laughing at someone instead of with them, and in general I don't enjoy that sort of humor very much.

A lot of what people said about his attitude being a put on to cover up for pain makes sense, though. I didn't give it much thought when I watched Voyager, didn't watch the whole series, and haven't gone back to it, so my memories are somewhat vague overall. If I ever do give it another go, I'll keep that thought in mind when watching Neelix.

It has nothing to do with not agreeing about humor. It was already understood she didn't find him funny. The point was, why ask the question if you're going to be dismissive of the answer? It kinda gives the impression they didn't care to hear it either way.

However, not a big deal. I just wanted to know why someone would do that.

But I wasn't dismissive of the answer. At all. I just said, "I still don't find him funny." I didn't say, imply or think, "And I don't think you should either."

So to answer your last question, Exodus, the reason I asked the question is, quite simply, because I wanted to know the answer. That's the best reason for asking a question, I think. You think he's funny, I don't, I wanted to know when you did. It's really and truly as simple as that.
