Why doesn't Amy have her own TARDIS key yet?

Jack let himself into the TARDIS in "Bad Wolf"; that's how he figured out where Rose went.

In "Vampires of Venice" the Doctor tells Amy and Rory to go wait for him in the TARDIS, so maybe she does have a key and they just didn't make a big production out of him giving it to her? Also, at the end of that episode she just opens the door; the Doctor never unlocked it for her. Maybe the TARDIS just lets in whoever she wants, and the key isn't really needed at all. She did lock the Doctor out in "The 11th Hour".

In The Hungry Earth, Rory goes back into put Amy's engagement ring somewhere safe - so maybe he's got a key and Amy doesn't?

Or the Tardis was just left unlocked or Amy had given him the key and thus she actually does have a Tardis key.

In both cases, I would hazard to guess that the TARDIS was left unlocked rather than whomever entered had a key. As much as The Doctor loves Jack, I honestly don't see him giving Jack a key.

Now that I think about it more Jack having a Tardis key makes a lot of sense since it was the Ninth Doctor who gave him the key and his change into an immortal didn't occur until "Parting of the Ways" so the Tenth Doctor wouldn't have been able to do anything about Jack having a key. So you guys are correct...and I just re-watched Series One last month and I missed this :(

He (10) could have changed the lock :)

Jack did have a key in The Sound of Drums.

He had a key to use as a Perception Filter, but I don't believe it was a proper TARDIS key.

Only a TARDIS key would work as a perception filter. The Doctor connected the perception filtering component of the TARDIS to the Archangel Network with the key. You couldn't do that with a key to a gym locker.

Just wondering - when did the Doctor start giving the companions their own key to the TARDIS?

I know Susan had one but can't remember any other of the 63 - 89 companions who did though I know there were times when the Doctor would lend them the key (such as he did with Sarah-Jane in The Android invasion).

course the worrying thing about JAck's key in Bad Wolf is where he was hiding it...although guess if he could secret a gun...ahem..somewhere then a key wouldn't take up much more room...

You're making ...that particular cavity... sound like a TARDIS itself.

Well, he pulled the key out of his pocket in "Bad Wolf". Not gonna touch the rest.

Probably wise, you don't know where they've been...or possibly you do!
