Why do women use crying to get their way?

:guffaw::guffaw::guffaw: Read. My. Other. Contributions. To. The. Thread. Then read your last comment and pay particular attention to the word "immature".

As for the rest, what are you talking about? What men VS women thing? You clearly have not understood- or, I imagine, read- anything I've posted save that last comment.

And your comment "chicks who don't give a shit and have more balls than the guy they are arguing with" wasn't a slur? "Balls" is a slang term for male reproductive organs, as I'm sure you know.

I don't really give a shit about your other 'contributions' to the thread because I am addressing what you said to me. I read the OP, I read your comments towards me, the rest, I don't really need to bother with.

I don't know how old you are but it seems like you've never heard the term 'more balls' before. OMG, ONLY GUYS HAVE BALLS? WOW, THANK YOU FOR THE NOTIFICATION.

It's just a saying that is equivalent to having more of a backbone. It's used in general. It's not 'wow, that chick is acting like a guy!'

You also started some garbage about how the term has something to do with men meeting standards with women when that has nothing to do with ANYTHING. If a girl punches another girl, she's got balls/guts/etc. It has nothing to do with a woman thinking a man has to be a certain way. It's a general term.

Oh, this thread's going to go WELL!

Subscribed so as not to miss the comedy value over the next few pages.

You know, ever since you stopped moderating Miscellaneous, I picture you like the guy in Thunderdome who just couldn't leave well enough alone and let two men enter and leave in peace. :p
He has definitely been far too happy since he left. :shifty:

It's like being reborn into a happier world.

You display your ignorance. The phrase "having balls" refers to masculinity, as in male reproductive organs used as metonym for "manliness". To say one has more or less balls is to say they do or do not measure up to a standard of masculinity. It's not my fault you use slang without grasping its meaning or implications.

And if you cannot be bothered to read preceding posts to get a picture on where people are coming from, you will end up mired in this sort of communications difficulty. If you "don't give a shit" about the discussion, leave it.

IT'S A GENERAL TERM, IT'S JUST SOMETHING PEOPLE SAY.

Oh man, I haven't laughed this hard in ages. I just explained it, I still can't believe you can't grasp it. My God, it's not saying that a woman is acting like a man, it's just another way of saying a person (guy or girl) has guts. Just like when people say certain other words to describe something.

I'm glad you find my ignorance of the depths of your ignorance so amusing. And what is this insistance that I'm saying "women acting like men". There is no way to "act" like a man or woman because as I've said, and in opposition to what you have suggested, men and women are not different, at least not in a community that has transcended outdated notions of gender roles and gender-specific behaviours.

Oh my God. I just don't have the patience for this. You clearly don't get it and seem to not even read your own posts because what I am saying is what you've pointed out in your posts. Instead, you sit here and try to give a lesson about balls being a part of the male anatomy as opposed to understanding that having balls is just a general term.

Just stop. You don't get it so move on.

Oh dear... I had a feeling things might get ugly in this thread.

Myself, I don't have much to contribute -- I tend to just avoid arguments as much as possible. No one has ever used crying to get their way with me, nor have I done so with anyone else. Then again, I don't often get very close to people, so perhaps that's why this whole concept is foreign to me. Maybe I just need to get more in touch with my emotions.

In an effort to bring a bit of levity into this thread, let's all remember what Seinfeld taught us: that men can use crying to get their way just as easily as women can. ;)

Indeed, it is quite obvious you don't have the paitence. It seems you have little paitence for anyone who takes issue with your narrow-minded suggestions and dares to disagree with such nonsense as "women are far more emotional than men are" (as I did respectfully). You "don't give a shit", to use your own words, and storm into rudeness and insults whenever your worldview is even slightly threatened. Well, fine, I'll leave. Unemotionally, of course, for I am male, and as you decree, "women ARE more emotional than men". I can't believe I of all people have managed to find someone who has angered me to the point where I'm posting multiple Guffaw icons in aggression. I spend all my time here being polite and friendly and respectful and where does it get me? The moment I post a (respectful) antagonism by questioining a fellow poster's comments, she becomes insulting. It's best I avoid this forum in future, I think, and stick to the far more civilized forums elsewhere. I apologise to all for derailing this thread, and I'll limit my activities to other forums from now on.

Hey, if you think this is bad, you ought to see TNZ.

Personally, I find Misc. is usually a pretty good place, and a great way to get to know your fellow posters (for better or for worse, but usually the former, IMO). But I guess it's not for everyone, so to each his own.

Where were the insults? I am almost certain that you indirectly said I was immature, whereas I was just trying to explain the 'slang' and you still insisted on throwing out the 'you're ignorant' statement and 'you clearly didn't read anything/comprehend anything' instead of trying to read what I was saying and better understand the lingo. Not everyone here is up to date with slang terms and I understand that but when someone comes along and tries to argue over a term and put words in my mouth, of course it's going to bother me, especially since it came across as you assuming I'm just another female who tries to take a piss on men when it had NOTHING to do with that at all. That kind of thing irritates me. I use general terms. I don't use a term and associate it with how a man or woman is expected to be.

I explained it clearly and you still insisted on giving a lesson about what gender has balls in reality as opposed to understanding that it's just something people say and doesn't have anything to do with a woman 'being like a man'.

Ok Daneel, you sound like Misc mod material to me :)

You do not have my permission to leave Misc, DN ;) You did not derail this thread either. Take a breather and come back because this forum cannot afford to lose you, even when you are obviously this upset. There's always the "notify" option if you believe things are out of control... but all this was was some rough sparring and nothing else.

Thank you very much, I really appreciate it. I must say, having taken my breather, you're quite right, I agree, nothing was out of line. I, however, appear to possibly have over-reacted and for that I apologise, to everyone including most definitely Kirk's Tights. I did not intend to, but I believe I have been a little bit childish and melodramatic. I probably should have avoided a discussion I was passionate about tonight, given the mood I'm in. Please excuse my rather melodramatic "I'M LEAVING!!!!!" comment ()and my probable overreactions to the contributions of Kirk's Tights. I certainly won't be leaving, I've actually been made very welcome here and everyone is very interesting. I will, however, make a note of avoiding threads I have a stake in when I'm in the mood I was in tonight. My tendency to express emotion openly isn't always the wisest course of action, I must admit.

Thanks, :) but it was still a mistake on my part to pursue this argument when I was in the mood I was in. I should have waited until I was more composed and more able to debate without winding up overly-upset and saying that I'm leaving....

Honestly! What does whaling like a 3 year old

3 year olds can barely pick up the harpoon.

:guffaw::guffaw:

I cry. I'm a crier; always been a crier, and assume this late in the game that i always will be. I have found what triggers me and avoid most of them when i can.

I don't argue, because if i feel the need to defend my point of view, i cry. If i have to confront someone i will cry. So instead i wait days until i am calm enough to think about what i would like to say. If i don't think i can do it without crying i let it go.

When i do cry i walk away. I don't blubber or anything, but if i feel an emotional welling of tears i walk away until its gone, or i get a grip before it gets out of hand. I don't let myself get in that position too often. And sometimes if its a more personal setting i just work through it while i talk.

I cry for other reasons as well. The news makes me cry, so i avoid watching it. They use trigger words and for the love of god every single one works on me. So i read my news instead. Its a lot less teary that way.

I cry at pretty much every single movie i watch...and tv show. And the more i watch it the worse i cry. You'd think that having seen something once i'd have gotten used to it, but no, it just gets worse until im a blubbering pile of goo on the floor. I cry at commercials, credits, kids skating, kids singing, my daughters piano recitals, the olympics...fuck, pretty much anything.

I actually feel like crying typing this.

Now mind you i also feel like im pretty unemotional. Unless im crying(which seems like all the time but really isn't) im just a nice state of normal. I go about my day, i rarely get angry, i don't have moments of manic joy or any such overwhelming emotions in any other way. I used to when i was a kid but then i took things way more personally then, now i don't.

Theres a point here somewhere.

Oh ya, criers aren't always manipulators and many times they hate that they cry just as much. Sometimes it's just plain out of their control. All they can do is try to avoid what causes them to cry but can't control the waterworks once it starts.

My kids think i am a riot every time i cry.

Don't you be picking on TNZ now!

Anyways, men and women both have emotions (obviously, we're all human) but women show it far more, which is why the crying happens. Men are better at 'mastering' their emotions. My dad, for example, isn't the type to say 'I love you' to me or my brothers but we know he loves us. When my cat died this past June, my husband didn't cry and just accepted that she was in a better place but he loved her so much after being an actual cat hater. She changed his thoughts on cats and, while I was crying my brains out, he didn't shed a tear, but I know how much he loved her and was sad that she died.

Men and women are wired differently. You still get the men and women who show less or more emotion but, for the most part, women show it a lot more than a man will. It isn't about turning into a baby just to get what we want and I actually find it pretty offensive that women are grouped in such a category that, in order to 'win' an argument, we have to cry like babies when that isn't the case. Sure, there are some people out there who play those games but don't throw all of us into that same group.

I would suggest you shouldn't feel shame at your tears. I too become tearful frequently, for many reasons and with many different emotions motivating it. There's no need to make a deal of it or promote it or act like it means anything much, but nor should you try to hide it. :) If you're blubbering all over the place I see why you might want to remove yourself and spare others the spectacle, but to me there's nothing wrong with tears.

I personally, and I acknowledge you might see it very differently, find hiding true, genuine emotions to be manipulative, just as faking or exaggerating emotion for attention is manipulative. As I said earlier in the thread (I'm sorry to repeat), as a young child I was very, very controlled and unrevealing of my emotions. I don't want to return to that childish, manipulative state, so I'm very emotional. To me personally, display of emotion in a trusting, open manner is a sign of maturity. :)
