Why do people hate Berman & Braga?

Do you think that Berman and Braga ruined Star Trek?

Don't worry, in a year or so, the focus of the bashing will probably shift to Bryan Fuller and Alex Kurtzman, and then the heat on Abrams will probably ease off. Nothing to do with the relative quality of their products -- every new incarnation of Trek becomes the focus of complaints from the purists who can't stand that it's different from what came before. Even the now-beloved TWOK was bashed quite a bit when it first came out.

Yeah I agree that anything ''New'' does tend to get bashed in my experience at first and then as the years pass by the balance is more even after the passage of time.

Personally speaking I like the new films (well the first two at least, can't comment on the latest one yet) not saying they're perfect as there are flaws but I like them overall.

And I say this as someone who's been watching Trek since TNG was new so it's not like I'm a ''newbie''.

It was a bit of humor based upon this as stated:
...Berman and Braga aren't the criminal hacks responsible for all of the Trek franchise's woes...
Logically, your statement not only implies that they might be criminal hacks responsible for at least some of the woes, but also that if they aren't responsible for all the woes, then there must be at least one other who is. Hence my request. This sort of thing gets presidential candidates in trouble with the press all the time when their awkward phrasing is actually parsed for meaning.

I believe I remember when being the last time here on these forums (about 2008, I think), that Brannon and Berman were hate a lot.

I never understood why. Especially Braga. His episodes are my favorite ST episodes ever. I'm a big fan of mystery, and episodes like Timespace, Cause and Effect and All Good Things (which he wrote, All Good Things together with Moore) are my favourites. I think he is really creative and has great and unique ideas.I like those kind of weird, but really good episodes with mysteries a lot and I personally find them much more likeable than sci-fi drama, those kind of episodes are the reasons why I like Star Trek that much.
And yes, Voyager maybe had some bad episodes, but I also liked it a lot, so no hate for Berman and Braga for me, because they were a part of ST that I liked a lot. I didn't like Enteprise, but no reason to really hate them for me.

I also really dislike DS9 and BSG, but I don't hate Ronald D. Moore either. I don't like his style of sci fi, but I think he was great when paired with Braga on TNG episodes.

I like Berman well enough. He has kinda has the look of an unsympathetic guy but I actually think he did a fine job all-in-all. He was mature enough to know let's only have the slight links to TOS with TNG. Get the damn thing to stand on its own two feet. A grudge I have with him is his bust-up with Ron Jones the in-episode wonder music guy. The in-episode music that came after his departure was very pedestrian and even irritating. But all-in-all I'm happy enough with him. Berman took a more distant role as the various series went on. Most non-TNG episodes with Braga's name on it got very sterile though.

It's just what happens when a franchise presses on without interruption for so many years. It can become formulaic and barren. And it's hard to refuse the network if they are still coming back to you to order more.

They eat children. On board Voyager, where Neelix cooks them over a bonfire made from Gene Rodenberry's ashes, with the Borg Queen as waitress. That's why.
