Why did the TOS films never bring back Carol Marcus?

Giant+Enormous. Don't you like my chocolate in your peanut butter?
I'd prefer your mustard on my hot dog.* Ginormous is a redundancy. Not only repetitive, but it does the same thing repeatedly. Repeatedly. Over and over again. And again. Again. Gain. N.N.N.n.n.n.n.........n....n.

(* Et tu, Etbj? Si, me 2.)

Better add guesstimate to that list.

Actually, I don't like either one.

The thought just occurred to me: Maybe they never brought back Carol Marcus (until they gave us the Abramsverse version, with a different backstory) for the same "reason" that the Tron sequels never brought back Lora/Yori, and why they got Daft Punk to do the score of one, and Nine Inch Nails for the other, instead of sticking with Wendy Carlos.
Because the original was far better than the sequels?

You're putting Descartes before the Horace. That's the effect of not bringing back Lora/Yori, and of not having Wendy score the sequels, not the cause.

The cause is that the guys who made those decisions, and the decision not to bring back the Prime Universe Carol Marcus weren't thinking.
So, you tell us. What's the singular "reason" you were alluding to? You never actually spelled it out.

So, they weren't thinking, that's the extent of your idea?

For those of us who might need to brush up on our idioms:

AI Overview:
The phrase "weren't thinking" means that an action was done without proper consideration, thought, or judgment. It implies the person was acting impulsively, carelessly, or without thinking through the consequences, and is often used to excuse a foolish or ill-advised mistake.

Nah. @Maurice gave us a plausible and likely reason that implies both proper consideration and proper judgment.

They didn't bring her back because it was not a high-budget movie, she didn't really have a role in the story, and you cut unnecessary roles to keep things simple and keep costs down. Really, that's it.

In contrast to the situation that @Maurice is describing regarding STIII et c., the Tron sequels were high-budget, so at the very least the reasoning regarding Lora/Yori would not have been identical.

Carol Marcus.
Sorry, that should have been Lora/Yori; fixed. My remarks after quoting you were a continuation of what I had been saying to the first poster. I quoted your post as a reference to a viable explanation and to demonstrate that it all wasn't because of the same reason, the filmmakers "not thinking".

Yeah this never set well with me. Unstable planet, unknown life signs heading their way, their ship was just blown to smithereens but those selfsame approaching life forms (something Saavik would have put together) and they do the Sehlat with two backs because of Pon Farr? Forgetting that it leaves out essential aspects of it (the joining at the young age, etc), it's impractical.

At best, Spock got a handy, but I rather think Saavik cooled him off with something more intimate on the "telepathic Vulcan way." Then took a nap. :rommie:

Honestly, if there was one scene I would lose from the movie, that's it. It's a sweet scene, but it's a bit of a botch.

Besides, and this is the part everyone leaves out....Spock didn't mate in Amok Time. He went through the blood fever, did the combat to the death, thought he killed his best friend, lost his mojo for T'Pring and off he went. He didn't die by not having sex (no Star Trek fan has). It's not important, apparently, that Vulcans mate...they need to defeat the urge.
She saw no other way to help Spock at that time, so she did it to save his life; it's as simple as that, and unlike some people here, I have no problem with it. It was a hard situation handled in the only way it could've been handled.

For all we know, she gave him a quick yank. Guys will be satisfied with less as long as the end result the the same.
