Why did Chakotay Choose to be with seven instead of janeway?

:o You are lovely, 2takesfrakes & Catarina! :)

Well, if I remember well, only the "art of kiss and hug" were referred (chaste and passionate)! ;) And the only bedroom scenes (characters were just naked in bed) we attended were:

- Chakotay and Kellin in "Unforgettable" (4x22)
- Harry Kim with Libby in Non Sequitur (2x05) then Derran Tal in "The Disease" (5x17)

However, we know that the following people had a sexlife during their journey too :

- Janeway with Michael Sullivan between Fair Haven (6) and Spirit Folk (s7) then with Jaffen in Workforce (s7);
- Paris/Torres right the time they were a couple and thanks to Seven, we learnt that they did it often and loudly;
- Neelix with Kes and later with the female Klingon;
- The Doctor, who had boasted to have had sexual relations in Message in the Bottle (4x14)

I have read that Star Trek had not always been a "family"series.due to topics discussed. :whistle:
Neelix and Kes that's just gross. Anyway I really liked the Janeway/Jaffen scene-it had a hot titillating feel to it I can't place.

Gross, I don't know but disturbing, for sure (and I will include C/7 in this category). I would have preferred to see them bonding like 2 individuals coming from different species, linked by a strong father/daughter relationship or 2 kindred spirits, who have in common the well-being of others. :)

Guy suggests that Janeway, "was holding out for Mark. Rejecting the crew for 4 years." And I'm inclined to agree. Don't you? I mean ... I would expect my woman to do as much for me, if she were lost in the Delta Quadrant. In turn, I would resist the urge to move on, myself ... as long as I was able. Mark has the worse end of the bargain, because everywhere he goes, there are reminders of the fruit he is forbidden to pick. Women in short skirts and high heels show up in the most unexpected places. Like, at the gas station, for example. Whilst Mark's fueling up, he pretends not to notice.

He goes to his job and female coworkers are dressed sexier than they do for their own boyfriends, just because they're at work. For Mark this distracts ... he tries to focus on the task at hand, but ... he's lonely. And tense. He heads over towards the water cooler, pours the deluge in a paper cup and tries to pretend that Kathryn's at home, waiting for him. It's not satisfying. Not at all satisfying. Just praying for the day to be over, so he can go play racquetball ... and vent his frustrations.

Then, he goes to bed, alone. And, just as he begins to fade ... he remembers holding Kathryn and how she'd warm his cool sheets. And he rolls over on his side, squeezes his pillows and shouts into it, "... I hate this 'holding out' for her, shit...!!!" All I can say is ... you know ... hey, Chakotay: you're not alone, brother. Look at Mark. He'll tell you. Believe me ... he knows what Kathryn's putting you through. It's not just you ...

I agree also, if it was me I would be holding out for my FIANCE, and I would hope that they would do the same for me. I don't personally believe that distance negates a commitment. If I had confirmation that they were dead then maybe I could begin to try to move on, but for me personally I would hold out until I knew for sure they were actually gone

Well ... if it were OFFICIALLY recognised that Voyager was "lost," even though there was no evidence or knowledge one way or the other, then that's good enough for Mark ... or it should be. I mean, yeah ... you want to know that wreckage was found, or something happened. You don't just want it "assumed" and give up hope on her, without something more to go by. But at the same time, it's like ... you know what? Waking up with wood just ain't cutting it. A Man needs something more substantial. It's preferred that she's actually found, or something concrete is found, but ... yeah ... when the State says, "we've given up the search," then it's time to start living Life, again. Time to get back in the saddle ... even in the future, people only have 1 Life to live. And they can't live on wishing and hoping. That's for certain ...

Once Mark heard the ship was lost in the Delta quadrant 70,000 light years away that relationship was toast. A 70 year engagement is out of the question.

Was Gul Evek returned from Caretaker's array?

Were the letters from Romulus delivered?

Did any one trust that the US Post Office would survive WWIII when they were stuck in 1996 for days?

According to one of those books Jeri Tyalor wrote, Mark waited and pined for Janeway for over twenty years, since they were childhood friends.

Widowers are sexy.

It's a mostly trained (younger?) man, who didn't do anything bad to exit a relationship, and is regretful to re-experience or precipitate anything close to those feelings of loss again.

The divorced, both sides, usually leave a relationship covered in shit and blood.

Unclean.

Ewwwwww.

Mark pined for Kathryn for over 2 decades ... wow! That's .... what can you say to something like that?

Fortunately, Chakotay's more sensible. He only pined for the better part of a decade. Less than half the time! Eventually, he put Kathryn right back with the rest. That's just the way it goes ...

I guess.

You haven't read Pathways, or the other one?

They're not terrible, very chicklit, but with Taylor jumping up and down screaming "This is canon! I invented Voyager so I say this is canon, so it's canon! Read it! Believe it!" So you must have been tempted a little?

Or are you still waiting for the price to come down?

Nopes! I've not read any STAR TREK: Voyager novels ... ever! But whilst I trust Jeri Taylor to get the "voices" of the characters right (which every other STAR TREK author gets wrong), I don't care for chick-lit. I prefer books of about rugged, outdoor adventure ... African Safari Big Game Hunter kind of stuff - like, from back in the olden days, before World War II, even. Back when Men were real Men ... and women were real women.

I do own Spock: Messiah, because I thought it was about his converting to Christianity, but that wasn't it, at all. I also have a TNG novel called Friend of Foe, which is so bad it's good. And, because Greg Cox was on my Wrath of Khan Bonus Features, I felt emboldened to purchase his book about Khan's years on Ceti Alpha V. Part of me wanted to like it, but ...

At the end of two decades (and then some) of nothing but caging the elephant ... spanking the monkey ... and choking the chicken in waiting for Kathryn to return... Mark must've had one hell of a monster Mid-Life Crisis on his hands! The expensive clothes ... the flashy car ... the greys all coloured and everything ... hitting the clubs ...

I always asked myself:
Why would Seven choose Chakotay over anyone else?
From all the characters I found him most boring.

It's to be expected that when it came time for Seven to choose a crewmate she fancied ... Chakotay would be the one she should select. Assuredly, he was the Alpha Male onboard. And whilst I do not care so much for her looks, she was always played up as the show's Smokin' Hottie ... which limited her choices, onboard, actually. With Tom Paris off the market ... Chakotay was about all Seven would even be able to notice. I mean ... try to picture her with Vorik ... you know? Doesn't work. Seven may not be this great beauty, or anything, but she was way out of Vorik's league. And most, if not all of the other single guys left onboard by the time she came around were geeks ... nerds ... nothing she'd want to give a second glance to, that's for certain.

That nerd Vorik was three times stronger than Chakotay.

If they got into a fight, Vorik could play him like accordion.

All true, but what are Seven's girlfriends gonna say, when she trots out Vorik? There would be questions in need of answering. Shit like ...

"Seven ... are you feeling OK?"
"Oh, 7, you can do so much better, girl. Believe me. I can't let you do this to yourself ..."
"Vulcans only have sex once every 7 years, come ON!!!"

And so on.
