Why aren't there any more powerful "empires" in Federation vicinity

Re: Why aren't there any more powerful "empires" in Federation vicinit

Trill were in contact with Earth at least as early as McCoy being at old Miss. before he became a doctor. If Dax was there to judge some sort of gymnastics competition, that would imply fairly good relations by the 2250s (some 15 years or so before first known contact with the First Federation). Betazed is an unknown.

I would think based on their few appearances that the Tholians are more advanced then the Federation, Klingons, Romulans, Cardassians.

In Enterprise three tiny vessels, not only easily take out Enterprise but a fleet of Suliban ships and the top of the line Vulcan Cruiser.

In TOS, it seems that the Tholian are still technologically more advanced then the federation a hundred years later.

But T'Pol mentions how xenophobic they are, this could certainly indicate that while they started out much more advanced, that the Federation (and others, who are more willing to interact with other species) have gained technology at a much faster rate.

That's race that isn't a one and done, and still gets mentioned though not scene in TNG and DS9. Be curious how their technology stacked up against the uFP during that period. If it would appear that they had caught up with them yet, or if they still had a lead to some degree.

Of course a missed opportunity would have been to "reveal" that the TOS "Klingons" were one of the member races of the Klingon Empire that perhaps lived closest to the Federation and so had the most dealings with them.

That's exactly what I had in a script I submitted to TNG in 1990.

Well it is really a shame that it wasn't picked up :(. In the long run it would have been a much better explanation than the virus story from Enterprise.

It might have also opened the door to perhaps introduce even *more* members of the Klingon Empire and thus oodles of potential Klingon stories to tell rather than the same old "Honour! Scheming! Wargh!" rut they eventually fell into.

Well, look at the Breen. They went from barely mentioned to major threat in a few episodes at the end of DS9. The prevailing theory is space is big and the Fed accounts for 5% or less of the known galaxy.

As of TNG's "Neutral Zone", the Romulans disappeared for 53 years, so between 2311-2364

i think that 5% is supposed to be all explored space, not just the UFP. So UFP, Tholians, First Federation, Cardassian Union, Romulan Empire, etc, etc
