Why are Vulcan's such dicks?

Wow. I wonder if even the writers knew about that when they were devising the scene.
Well, it's the first thing I thought of when I saw the scene. It's a pretty notable quote. Maybe guys don't remember such scenes; but as a female viewer, I remember a lot of the scenes female characters had.

yep, me too. besides, that episode (JoB, especially those scenes between Amanda and Spock and that wonderfully done "slap") is one of my all time Trek favorites.

If that is the case, my respect for Robert Orci just went up a few notches! I knew he was a fan but of that caliber... That's just downright awesome.

I also thought that Spock, even when he was seriously trying to come across as unemotional, would just kinda snap at people. "Out of the chair," comes instantly to mind.

This new spock would be more inline with what they want to do with the character in the future, as a more edgy and more emotional spock.
Its all catered to the MTV generation where snappy is cool.

And its always more easier for kids to relate to emotion than logic.

Hey, I'm a guy and that's the first thing that came to me too! :)

That's why I drew attention to it here.

It is a veritable Vulcan/Human festival.

I was always worried that Spock would be damaged by the drug that speeded up his blood production, LOL. Silly me.

And speaking of TOS Vulcans, don't you think that T'Pau, T'Pring, Stonn and even Sarek are dicks at times?

I'm sure they did. If I was going to write a Spock/Amanda scene, the first thing I would do is go watch "Journey to Babel" again. And maybe "Yesteryear" too.

No matter what people may think of the final product, it's clear the writers did their homework.

that's why I am not worried about the sequel. plus, Damon Lindelof is around this time. both are huge Trekkies from what I know.

It's not spelled Vulcan it's spelled VULKAN....
it's the label on the screen when you first see the planet.

Maybe thats why their such dicks... humans are constantly spelling their planet wrong....

sure, and it's why we love them. let's face it, if the Vulcan's weren't dicks, would we have the kind of Spock/McCoy scenes we've all grown to adore?

no. it's good that they are. the last thing I want them to be are cuddly bears.

Man, who would have thought the writers of Transformers could turn out to be such diehard Trekkies (well, one of them at least), and turn out a really spectactular script that is both reverent to the source material and accessible to regular audiences.

We have no idea how lucky we are.

You know, the thought occurs that Journey To Babel and the other great episodes of TOS are alot like this movie. The plot and science are not perfect, but the character moments are not only primary, but they are also downright terrific. The very essence of Star Trek.

Well, that's what I would have suspected. I didn't know why it wouldn't be the first thing people thought of, so I surmised a bit.

I know. it's why it amazes me no end when I see people claim it's "not Star Trek". wonder what version of TOS have they been watching all this time.

When he told Kirk to get out of the chair I thought was almost as funny (in a good way) as "Hi Christopher, I'm Nero." .
