You know, the thought occurs that Journey To Babel and the other great episodes of TOS are alot like this movie. The plot and science are not perfect, but the character moments are not only primary, but they are also downright terrific. The very essence of Star Trek.
I know. it's why it amazes me no end when I see people claim it's "not Star Trek". wonder what version of TOS have they been watching all this time.

I should see the movie again - I didn't notice that Spock was actually a Vulcan - since when do they kiss in public?

You miss my point - No matter what "past" they had - Vulcans don't kiss in public. Spock is a human in this movie - just a conflicted one.
