Why are Vulcan's such dicks?

All this talk of Vulcans makes me wanna go back and watch Enterprise again!
I should see the movie again - I didn't notice that Spock was actually a Vulcan - since when do they kiss in public?
You miss my point - No matter what "past" they had - Vulcans don't kiss in public. Spock is a human in this movie - just a conflicted one.

I think there's a long history of Vulcans being jerks in Star Trek. It makes sense when you think about how they insist on suppressing emotions because they believe it makes them 'superior'...obviously with that train of thought some of them are going to have a superiority complex. I just saw a DS9 episode called "Take Me Out to the Holosuite" for the first time where that was a major plot point as Captain Sisko has a history with a Vulcan from the academy who would taunt him about being too emotional as a human. He gets back at him by getting him to show irritation at the end. I also just saw Spock in "Day of the Dove" admitting (under the influence of the alien that feeds off bringing out peoples' suppressed prejudices/hostile feelings) that he's always been annoyed by humans and their "foolish emotions". Fortunately he redeems himself at the end by saying he briefly felt bigotry and it was "distasteful".
You're forgetting the scene in the transporter room in front of Kirk, Scotty and unamed crewman.

OH this is so true. I really felt during the movie that I was accessing the emotional grip TOS had on me in my younger years, before there were 4 more series to suck down. I think that has a lot to do with why I'm so in love with Star Trek XI.
They don't. In fact, we have no evidence (I think) that Vulcans ever kiss other Vulcans. It simply might not be done in their culture.
But half-Vulcans, under extreme circumstances, will occasionally kiss humans in public... It's canon now
Well, when you're beaming over to the enemy ship, likely on a suicide mission, it is only logical to make that last goodbye count!
Lets see. That kiss in the tranporter room was 3/4 human and 1/4 Vulcan, after the half Vulcan recognised that he was emotionally comprimised by witnessing the deaths of his mother and 6 billion friends and family.
A little comfort from a kiss from the one you love is ok even for Spock.
while it went on longer then i liked there are two thing to keep in mind.
one spock had been through a major trauma over the loss of his planet and knowing he wasnt able to save his mother.
plus we know from tos younger spock as seen in the cage and even in some of the earliest episodes let emotion leak through.
he was grinning in the cage, shouting the women and even seen to smirk in a couple of the early episodes.
