Why are Star Trek fans made fun of more than Star Wars fans in popular culture?

As I said, she seemed very committed, but definitely not delusional (I mean, prosecutor and lawyers were ok with having her as juror) and tried to apply the best lessons of Star Trek. There are certainly worse ways to spend your life.

What?!?!?! At least tag it as a spoiler, YOU MONSTER!!! :wah:

Joking aside, what was her answer?
IIRC, something like she's aware Starfleet itself isn't real, but her uniform actually represents an organization with similar ideology she belongs to.
Uh, Jedi being called and recognized a religion. Top that.
I like the story about the guy who went shopping wearing a Jedi robe, but left the hood over his head. Store staff asked him to remove the hood, he refused on religious grounds, and demanded to see the manager to complain about the staff practicing religious persecution, he's a Jedi, he has a right to wear his hood. The manager retorted that nowhere in any Star Wars movie does it say that Jedi are to wear hoods while indoors, and that Jedi almost always remove their hoods when indoors. He also added that the only character in Star Wars who does wear a hood indoors is Palpatine, who most certainly isn't a Jedi.

I don't know how this particular Jedi reacted to that.

Yes... although to some extent, I believe there is an ulterior motive to that. It's just adding a different kind of panache to things like Pastfarianism, Satanism, Dudeism, or any number of "religions" designed to call out of the hyprocisy of religious special privileges.

While I can imagine the stereotype of the Star Trek fan (and I think any screenwriter who has never seen ST in their life but must represent the typical nerd can), I find it difficult to imagine the equivalent in the world of Star Wars. Do they greet by saying "May the force be with you"? Do they walk around in Jedi robes? Let's say that there are probably many fewer elements that would make the "civilian" say "AH-AH! He's a Star Wars fan!!!"

I feel that out of the big Sci-Fi's franchises, ALIEN is being left out. But here is how an ALIEN superfan sees things.

Star Trek is a political space fantasy, but it covers its fantasyness by looking like a science fiction story and the technobabble.

Star Wars is Dungeons & Dragons in SPAAAACCCCCEEEEE

ALIEN is a good speculative evolution science fiction series mixed with Lovecraftian/cosmic horror elements and doesn't have to resort to Deus Ex machinima plots like Star Wars and Star Trek.

The ALIEN fanbase is pretty divided, more so than either Star Trek or Star Wars. The one thing most ALIEN fans can agree on is that the first movie is the best.

Things that irritate the ALIEN fanbase as of 2024: AVP, Xenomorph origin story, the ALIEN prequels, the xenomorphs continuing being the face of the franchise, Alien RPG's new lore, and in recent years, James Cameron's ALIENS.

At least Star Trek/Star Wars doesn't have some people demanding that they should replace all of its iconic aliens with new ones.

It has given us phrases useful in many social situations:

"Game over, man! Game over!"

" Nuke the entire site from orbit. It's the only way to be sure."

"Did IQs just drop sharply while I was away?"

" It's a bug hunt."

"We'd better get back 'cause it'll be dark soon and they mostly come at night. Mostly."

"Get away from her, you bitch!"

Maybe we can equal it. My annual TREK con always had a Sunday Church of Trek in which we ''Hail{ed} Trek!''

While the first ALIEN only has ''Please don't do that,'' five ''right''s and an anguished ''DAM LEE ROW!!!!''* (which in truth captions as ''Get OUT of the ROOM!!!'').

I think it's hard to compare Alien with Star Trek.
Alien is just a few films, Star Trek is several series and hundreds of episodes.
That didn't stop Star Wars back in the day when it was only 3 then later 6 films back during Star Trek's classic run (TOS, TNG, DS9, VOY, and ENT). Alien had 4 mainline movies under its belt and two crossover movies.

Alien has no comparison and needs a far better name for itself. It belongs far away from Star Trek, Star Wars, Stargate, etc.
