Why are all the cars old in "11:59"?

The tenth anniversary of Fireflies cancellation has come and gone.

There was an episode of Castle where a situation called for Castle to start screaming Chinese at Chinese people to resolve a tense situation.

Beckett in the aftermath says "Where did you learn how to do that?" and Castle replies "I had to learn Mandarin for an old TV show I liked."

Of course if you don't like it that subtle, Castle dressed as a "Space Cowboy" for Halloween probably 5 years back. :)

No! LOLOL will never happen. Well I've watched Firefly a lot but that is no longer new.

It's still new to me, since I never saw it until about 3 weeks ago. Though I've not watched every episode five times each yet. Or maybe I have.

That's just Archaeology.

Odds are we could suggest dozens of shows new and old that would rock your world.

Things that have rocked my world:

NuBSG

Torchwood

Eric Northman and Pam, damn the rest of the dribble that surrounds them..

And Buffy is currently my world rock, I'm on season 4 nospoilersplease.

The only non-Archaeology one there is Eric and Pam, who are returning to me in June. I'm also holding out for Capaldi to rock my world, maybe after his adorable personality deficient companion falls into a pit and the new one is oh I don't know.. some kind of feral little shrew for a change.

GoT doesn't make the list, though it never bores.

I loved Orphan Black but again, I am not writing fanfic over it, yes that IS THE DEFINITION of "rock my world", would you write fanfic? Okay maybe I would write Tyrion fanfic, if I was Mary Sue'd into his bedchambers but that's about it.

Firefly was a rare jewel.

You of course tried Doll House, but did you find Doctor Horrible's Sing-a-long-Blog?

Nathan Fillian plays a vain super hero called Captain Hammer, who decides to annoy his nemesis by stealing the badguy's (Niel Patrick Harris) unrequited almost girlfriend (Felicia Day).

(It's only 40 minutes long and they keep claiming to make more but they don't.)

I watched all of Dollhouse, I liked Eliza Dzhuku much better in Buffy. Dollhouse kind of washed over me into nothingness but it was fun seeing so many familiar BSG faces etc.. and I liked the alternative sorta? ending. With the apocalypse.

I haven't seen Dr. Horrible yet. The browncoats keep plugging it at cons. I am GOING TO DO IT.

You can't just watch it once.

(And then after you have watched the sing-a-long-blog ten times, go find Doctor Horrible: The Commentary, the Musical.)

:)

It is utterly unfair that Penny died before she got to have sex with Nathan Fillion.

This is the third time a supervillain type has offered to give away Australia or demanded Australia in payment for dastardly deeds. The first time was in Superman 2, the second time was in Stargate:Continuum and now a third giveaway of Oz is promised in Dr. Horrible.

Annnd.. it was adorable and snappy and original and weirdass all in one hit.

I was serious about the Musical commentary.

They sing a commentary.

Felicia goes off a on a massive tangent singing about how awesome The Guild is, and how everyone should buy the DVDs.

...

You all do remember, unlike Braga (Story by, teleplay by.), that 1999 is 3 years after the Eugenics War finished? It's possible that during the War that the civilian automotive industry was retooled towards other purposes, and already existing new cars full of fancy technology and useful alloys were reclaimed and recycled into community works, the space program and the war industry.

teacake, have you dabbled in all the classic slashy fandoms? Ooh, or what about Sleepy Hollow? That's getting fandom traction!

Is it? Is it really?

I've started the final episode of season one of Sleepy Hollow 3 times so far and lost the strength to stomach it through to the end successively.

Meanwhile... 12 days till Continuum is back!

Woo-hoo!

Now there's a fangasm that gives my hackles conniptions.

...No, I made that up so it would get some love :(

I haven't even managed to watch it myself, but it's getting good press for having a main POC female character though, and there are some Abbie/Ichabod shippers out there.

I haven't watched Sleepy Hollow.. I couldn't even manage OUAT, though admittedly I only tried for 5 minutes :(

Continuum is excellent STARRING GAILA FROM ST:XI, looking fwd to what they do after the season 2 finale.

There's a lot of new stuff I haven't checked out, anything fairy tale-ish is low down on the list. Anything with space ships is high up on the list. Sadly there are not a lot of space ships.

As to the eugenics war, that town looks like a lot of depressed areas in the US, actually it looks much much better though Trek has never managed to do grit and run downness, the Bell riots stuff was probably the most realistic. Of course though the eugenics war was stealth, I'm thinking that the true death levels and machinations were not revealed until decades later.

Same here. I want to like OUAT, but every time I sit down to watch an episode I mentally check out.

Greg had the Augments using %100 ecologically derived doomsday weapons.

Building a hotel on Mars, would have been one of the last things the Superman put on the drawing board before they fell... Although, when they drew up the plans it was probably for a palace.

But with all those genetically modified super intellects wandering around, it's no wonder Shannon couldn't get a job in her field and had to cash in her lib chips to raise some old man's children.

Have you seen (The Film) Idiotocracy?

The hypothesis in that movie is that stupid people breed more than smart people, so that eventually all babies are dumb babies... Did the supermen die out because they were too self involved to frakk, or where they neutered by the state, or is the current average IQ of 250 in the 23rd and 24th century because the Superhumans had been programmed to have superhuman sex drives and they couldn't help but breed like rabbits no matter where they stood in the hierarchy or what they were supposed to be doing that was necessary to the war effort?

More food for thought...

The photo of Shannon Janeway with her children and grandchildren, circa 2050, shows no signs of the destruction resulting from World War III, or the following Post-atomic horror.

Maybe the problem is that the Eugenics War, post-atomic horror storyline was just too extreme for other story lines to realistically (well, realistic in a ST universe) incorporate.

All they needed was a mushroom cloud in the distance of that family portrait and I would have never said a bad word about Voyager ever again.

At the time of the first run, I didn't realize that old Shannon was on the edge of WWIII, but minutes before seeing the complaint at memory Alpha, and I saw the family portait iin a margin which had been dated as 2050 and WWIII did rear up in my mind as a vital missing element... Memory Alpha goes on to cite interviews with Joe Menosky saying that initially they didn't want any Science fiction in this at all (Although they didn't admit that they were (Squint) ripping off Far Beyond the Stars from a year earlier.) and only then added scenes on Voyager in a later draft becuase they couldn't get the story to work just set squarely in 1999 without any framing devices.
