Who's your favorite major Marvel comics character(s)?

Squirrel Girl. Squirrel Powers, bested doom. Bested Thanos. Seriously. The single most competent superhero in the while Marvel Universe, even if her teammates are idiots.

The Ghost Rider (Johnny Blaze)
Captain America (Steve Rogers)
The Hulk
Deadpool
Spider-Man (pre OMD/BND)
Venom (Eddie Brock)

Wow. Only one other vote for the FF.

There was a time when this whole thread would be FF boosting. 'Course, there were no BBSs back then...or internets...or computers you could fit on your desk, but still...

You didn't see those wretched Jessica Alba abortions, did you? :shifty:

Favorites in order at Marvel:
  1. Spider-Man
  2. Hulk
  3. Silver Surfer
  4. Ghost Rider
  5. Moon Knight
  6. Punisher
  7. Wolverine
  8. Blade
  9. Darkhawk
  10. Man-Thing
Yes, Man-Thing is my avatar so why #10? He isn't as compelling as subject matter as the rest, visually though he's really cool. For every great Man-Thing story there are a half-dozen for the others on that list. Most writes just don't "get" the character I think.

Like the Namor fan I may be his one fan here.

Actually, I did see them. :( I think I mentioned that in the OP.

Thing is, as craptastic as those movies were, my love for the originals is so strong that not even they could turn me off of it.

Oops, I musta missed it in the OP. I like them quite a bit too, particularly when done as the disfunctional family they were meant to be, they're just not my favorite per se... but I do think that the movies are why more people aren't into them these days, because that fresh scent of suck is fresh on the mind. Also, Reed was in on the whole Civil War thing, but then so was Tony. Then again, Tony had a good movie.

:)

Sorry. I wasn't around when the Fantastic Four were cool. I've always been an X-Men kid.

Oh yeah, Deadpool is great. So hilarious. I loved his original regular series the one drawn by McGuinness. Also loved him in the Hulk vs. Wolverine DVD. // I'm just now getting into the Fantastic Four, reading the B&W Essential trades, but I wouldn't quite list them as my favs.

Captain America. Steve Rogers, of course, but given Brubaker's excellent writing, I have to put Bucky up there just about equally (taking his entire history into consideration, not just his time as Cap).

1) Captain America (Steve Rogers and James Buchanan "Bucky" Barnes)
2) Fantastic Four (especially The ever-lovin' Thing, but they work best as a group)
3) Namor
4) Nick Fury
5) Iron Man
6) Daredevil
7) Nightcrawler
8) Thor / Wolverine (tie)
9) Moon Knight / Captain Britain (tie)
10) Beast / Colossus (tie)

I would have put Gambit or possibly even Cyclops on the list, as they were my favorites on the X-Men cartoon, but honestly, their comics counterparts have done less than nothing for me. And notice your friendly neighbourhood web-head really isn't there. I like him, especially when the humour is front and center and well-written, but I honestly can't say he's a favourite.

He's not what most people would call a major character, but he's among the most powerful in the MU, and making a return to the living world now:

The Incredible Hulk is my all time favorite Marvel character followed by Spidey and the FF. I also love the movie version of Wolverine, I even named my youngest daughter after him.

You named your daughter "Wolverine"?:guffaw:

Someone had to say it.

1) Spider-Man. A guy with incredible powers and abilities (given time and room to manuever, I think Spidey could beat almost anybody this side of Galactus) who has to worry about making the rent each month. What's not to love? To answer a post upthread, Spider-Man without melodrama is like McDonalds without hamburgers. Stan specifically created him to be a super-schnook. That's where the greatness of him lies. I actually feel the movies (at least the first two) captured this essence perfectly.

2) Wolverine. Damn, he got overused there in the last couple of decades, but 70's Claremont-and-Byrne-era Wolverine was one of the coolest characters ever. Not afraid to slice ass and smoke cigars. Anybody remember the hoo-haw when he took out the guard in the Savage Land (I think it was X-Men #115 or so)? "Superheroes don't kill!" (I guess Sgt. Fury and his Howling Commandos can kill all the Nazis they want, but put a guy in longjohns...) I loved the fact that his past was mysterious, even to the X-Men and ultimately, himself.

3) Nightcrawler. Unfortunately the second X-Men movie did not get this character right -- a huge disappointment for me, as I loved this guy for a long time. I would have loved to see Alan Cummings play Kurt Wagner more as the bon vivant swashbuckler, a great counterpoint to the ultra-serious Cyclops and the brooding Wolverine.

4) Iron Man. Yeah, the techno-geek in me goes for IM in a big way. And the movie was fantastic! Robert Downey Jr. was born to play Tony Stark (c'mon, daddy issues, substance abuse, what more d'ya need?) Plus, the guy's a billionaire and a babe magnet, every man's fantasy.

5) Hawkeye. Here's a guy who does one thing and one thing only -- but he's the best. That issue of The Avengers where he defeats the Collector, who's just captured most of the Avengers and then taken out Thor, Iron Man and the Wasp, should be in the Smithsonian. The Bad Beaver to Captain America's Wally. And he bagged his share of babes (Black Widow, Mockingbird).

Actually I take it back. Puck from Alpha Flight is my favorite. He's a hairy, Canadian midget who's power is to throw himself at people. And unlike that other hairy, Canadian midget who throws himself at people, Puck's act hasn't gotten old.
