Who's your Captain?

He's actually a Commander, based on his rank stripes as seen on the cereal boxes.

In some Naval traditions, a person can hold the rank of commander, but be in charge of a ship, and will still be called 'captain'.

In traditional military thinking, the captain is the one who leads the largest organic group of people. In the army, the captain is the person who can lead the company, who are at most 250 soldiers. In the navy, the captain is the person who can lead the ship. In both cases, the rank of the person who leads each has become more immaterial, but only in the navy is that person still called the captain.

And in Naval traditions that have a rank of captain, a visiting captain who isn't in command of the ship would sometimes be called "Commodore", to differentiate them from the captain. But since our Navy doesn't use that rank anymore, I assume they do something different.

A modern American aircraft carrier will have three officers ranked captain: the CO, the XO, and the captain of the CAG.

I know a lot of people favored Janeway, and it's easy to see why... at her best, she was awesome. Problem is, her character varied based on who was writing her, and when. Sisko was far more consistent, despite his multifaceted nature. Or perhaps because of it.

J. T. Esteban

I'd want to live through the missions.

Of course his crew died, but it's understandable because Kruge was there. Normally Esteban seemed very safe to be with.

I have good news for you! Due to overwhelming fan pressure (which I think consisted of your post, and maybe a tweet in 2016 or so), the powers that be have taken notice, and have finally righted this historic wrong. Yes, the estimable Horatio M. Crunch (not even kidding!) has finally been promoted to captain. Your cereal boxes are no longer lying to you.

We can all sleep easier tonight knowing that Captain Crunch has now achieved rank parity with Colonel Sanders in the Food Military.

I'm so old, I knew him when he was a Lieutenant Commander.

And don't get me started on Colonel Sanders....

That article is from July, yet I haven't noticed updated boxes in my area yet. Though, that shouldn't be too surprising, the new Pepsi logo was unveiled in the spring, but we've only just started getting them around here within the past few weeks. I'll definitely have to keep an eye out for this.

It's always surprising when you find out mascots have names. Like the guy on Pringles labels is apparently named Julius Pringle.
