Who's the greatest/most influential in Starfleet/Federation history?

Starfleet Engineer

Vice Admiral
Admiral
Who do you think is the greatest/most influential officer in Starfleet history? I don't care about your definition of "great." I just want to know who you give the title to.

The reason for the question is that I've noticed, as I've been watching TNG again, that Picard was involved in so many critical, history making situations and given so many honors that it seemed as though the PTB were making him out to be the "greatest" and most influential Starfleet officer in history. So, the question came to my mind about who might be considered the greatest.

A separate question might be asked about the greatest or most influential officer in Federation history. Sarek would be a top candidate for that title, according to Picard, and I would agree with that.

What do you think?

Got to be Mr Willard Decker. Without him, Earth gets digitised by Vejur, and then probably the rest of the universe.

Well done sir.

Re: Who's the greatest/most influential in Starfleet/Federation histor

Well, there's an admiral who gets top billing on the dedication plaque of every Federation starship: Admiral Gene Roddenberry, I think, who must have made some great contribution.

Re: Who's the greatest/most influential in Starfleet/Federation histor

Picard. Both he and Kirk have saved Earth several times, but Picard has had much more influence in Federation's relations with the Cardassians and Klingons.

Re: Who's the greatest/most influential in Starfleet/Federation histor

Archer. He helped start and lead the Federation in a time when Humans weren't a major player and when most Vulcans didn't care for Humans.

I think it's Sisko. He was essentially the one who won the war that occupied the entire Alpha Quadrant.

spock. he wrecked not only the terran empire, but was also involved in the destruction of romulus and vulcan. i wonder why braxton or daniels never popped up and disappeared him. the man was a jinx. :vulcan:

No. He had nothing to do with winning the war. Odo and Damar had more to do with it.

Re: Who's the greatest/most influential in Starfleet/Federation histor

I'm going to go with Spock, and the reason is partly due to longevity. Others - Archer, Kirk, Picard - had a huge impact on one era, but he had an impact on several.

Of course he won the war. Odo reported to him. As did Kira (who trained Damar and the rest). Otherwise we should start discounting everthing that Picard or Kirk did because they didn't do it by themselves.

On Cardassia but Sisko got the Bajorian Prophets to block the Dominoin Armada from coming into the Alpha Quadrent, Forcint the Dominion to start building ship yards in order to fabricate their reinforcements. Without this the war most likely would have gone the other way.

Re: Who's the greatest/most influential in Starfleet/Federation histor

Zefram Cochrane. No warp drive, no Federation, no Starfleet.

So, yeah, I know he wasn't an officer...as far as we know.

Re: Who's the greatest/most influential in Starfleet/Federation histor

I would have to say Picard. Without Picard, human life would not have evolved, rendering all other achievements meaningless, due to Picard's actions in "all good things..."

Re: Who's the greatest/most influential in Starfleet/Federation histor

"There will be no peace as long as Kirk lives!" For good or bad, I would say that makes him the most influential. The Klingons never said that about any other single individual.

Going along those lines, you could argue the genetically enhanced girl who freed Bashir in time for him to stop the other genetically enhanced people from giving the Dominion the information which would have lead them to winning the war can be counted.
