Who Should Be Served First?

Miss Chicken

Little three legged cat with attitude
Admiral
I saw this being discussed elsewhere and thought of discussing it here. What is your opinion of the statement

NO CHILD SHOULD RECEIVE A PLATE BEFORE THE MAN OF THE HOUSE.

Was it being discussed in 1957?

It's obviously an incredibly sexist and outdated remark. I'm not sure why you felt there would be a serious debate about this. I'm sure one or two backwards misanthropes will come in to defend it and everyone else will see it for the misogynistic crap it is.

Depending on the age of the child the parents should both make sure they are settled in and given their meal first and then get their own meals and sit down. If the children are older they can share those responsibilities. The parents can then clear the table and do the dishes together or if the children are old enough they can help. Both parents can prepare dinner together or on alternating days.

None of this "man of the house" takes top priority shit.

I think some of the women from the thread were stuck in 1957. It seemed to me that there were more females who supported it than males.

One of the woman said the proper serving order was men first, then children, then women. Another suggested the older males should be served before younger males.

Sounds more like 1857, fucking prairie mentality.

Personally I would serve the Children first and as a man I am perfectly capable of carrying my own plate to the table and as I have two hands I can carry two plates..

One person has said that the boss gets fed first - the boss is the cat.

In my household the cats get fed before the people. It does not stop them from begging for our food.

There are cultural differences to this. Even if the food (in "family-style" shared dishes for you to spoon onto your own plate or bowl yourself, not meted out ahead of time into separate individual servings) is all out on the table, I wait until people older than me start eating before I dig in.

Kor

There does seem to be some cultural aspects at play. The women who have supported it have included a couple of Latino women, an Egyptian woman and a Maori woman, also a couple of stay at home mothers.

With the Maori women most of them say children first, than the nannies and the koros (older men).

The Maori woman who disagreed said

lol i might be putting my foot in it but if you look at it in a way where eldest before the youngest. This is how they where born, babies come last, If you take care of the eldest first then they will show compassion to the rest, Even if its the man of the house or how you would put it.We have been robbed from our knowledge, look after the older ones, treat them how they are supposed to be treated give them there rightful place in life, as we where all taught respect your elders. The eldest came before the babies. Kia Ora!

Whoever can get to the food first. Kids are small and can maneuver tight spaces, so they usually eat first.

I always make sure my wife and kids get their plates first when I serve meals. I'm always the last to sit down.
