Who prefers Archer/T'Pol?

On Hopeful's comment about it's up to the higher ranking officer -- don't know. If so, it would seem that T'Pol made an error in judgment in Harbinger.
Hey, Commie! How nice of you to chime in! I thought you only popped up when someone opened A/T or T/T threads...

Oh, wait...

Actually, I've always been under the impression that Trip and T'Pol are of equal rank. The fact that she is left in charge when Archer leaves the ship or is incapacitated was more likely based on availability in the early days -- since Trip was generally needed in engineering -- and eventually based on the respect she had earned from the crew.

Trip always spoke to T'Pol as an equal on the job and off, whereas with Archer he was always deferential in their official relationship, and less formal in social situations.

Case in point:
Trip ignores her counsel concerning the cogenitor. Had she been his superior officer she would have made it a direct order and he would have had no choice but to obey or face disciplinary action. I believe she didn't make it a direct order because she didn't have that authority over him.

Indeed. In TNG we know that Riker is second in command on Picard's ship at all times. Even though we know that T'Pol is 1st Officer on Archer's ship, the chain of command between Trip and T'Pol only comes into play when Archer is either off the ship or incapacitated. T'Pol never even so much as gives a single order to Trip unless Archer is unable to captain. She comes close once, in the season 3 episode where she tells Trip she could order him to get some sleep, but apparently knowing it wouldn't mean anything, she asks Phlox to help her.

Favorite Archer/T'Pol scenes: the scene in Archer's quarters in Damage - the scene in Bound where she tells Archer that he needs to do something about the Orions. Her curt little "thank you" at the end of the conversation cracks me up.

As for "Harbinger," I am in that small minority that believes the trellium didn't make T'Pol a brainless looney tune, it just enabled her to access emotions, and she acted on them.
You are far, far from alone on this one; particularly in relation to the events of Harbinger.

I think Archer refers to T'Pol as "[his] First Officer" in North Star. I'm sure he's referred to her as such in other episodes, but that's the only one that comes to mind at the moment.

Confirmed! I checked through Season 1, never found "First Officer," and threw in the towel. Thank you!

Does anyone know when "First Officer" is initially used on ENT? It would be interesting if Archer doesn't call T'Pol that until Season 3, after she has given up her commission.

I like to think that after Trip's death, Archer and T'Pol got together. It is logical.

Trip and T'Pol is my OTP.

However, I'm open to Archer/T'Pol, at least in terms of fanfic, etc. Some of it's pretty good, and I don't get all bent out of shape and offended by the idea of the pairing the way some TnTers do.

In terms of the show itself, though, I don't think it works. Speaking for myself, I think she had better chemistry with Trip.

I feel the same. My feeling is, the drugs didn't fuel the sex, or the attraction, or the feelings she had for Trip. I've always likened the Trellium to a human having a drink for "liquid courage"--alcohol doesn't make you do anything or put thoughts into your head that weren't there, it just makes it easier to act on whatever impulses and feelings you already have inside you by telling your internal censor to stfu. Things that you sublimate are allowed to surface--but nothing is "created" by the substance.
