Which of you changed your minds?

I've spent time on forums for other movies like Star Trek 09 -- reboots, prequels, and new-filmmaker-sequels of beloved franchises. Good movie or bad, you always find people who wanted to love the movie and end up loving it and people who wanted ot hate the movie and end up hating it. Of course, there's also the "wait and see" crowd too (where I usually sit).

But I'm always curious about who changed their mind. People who thought they would hate it and ended up loving it. Or people who thought they would love it and eded up hating it. Anyone end up changing their mind?

Or what about individual aspects? Did you think Simon Pegg would be a terrible fit for the movie and end up loving him? Did you love the pictures of the new Enterprise but end up unimpressed with her in the movie? Etc...

I fully expected to hate and I've seen it three times. Funny thing is, the movie was everything I expected it to be. Somehow, I just didn't care.

I can totally see that. Having not been at all interested in this movie until after it came out, I was thinking about how the spoilers for this movie probably made it look. I think it would have been reasonable to have trepidation. Kirk was being played by some guy who'd only done really bad 'tween movies, a Kirk-Spock-Uhura maybe love triangle (gag), one of the LotRs elves playings Bones, time travel, birth scenes during a battle, little precocious kids, etc. It's a cliche-a-polooza. And yet, it was ridiculously entertaining, and the characters really worked (for me, at least)

I was stoked about this film from the very beginning. I scheduled May 8 as a day off work months in advance. I had every intention of several back-to-back viewings that day, as I'd done with all the other Trek films that I saw in the theater. I loved Countdown, and was generally happy with the the spoilers' I'd read (minus the ship and the a certain planet's demise). I was even onboard with the whole alternate universe thing. In general, I felt this was an exciting time to be a Trekkie.

Instead, I saw the movie once, and once only. I was absolutely disgusted by some of the choices Abrams and Co made. When I left, I didn't feel excited to be a Trekkie, I felt sad that Star Trek had been murdered and had its identity stolen.

The movie was enjoyable enough as your standard low-brow Hollywood garbage, but Star Trek it was not. I really wish it hadn't been so.

I had a wait and see approach, but when they first annouced it I was kind of let down they were rebooting. But I just sort of let that go and took a 'wait to see' attitude.

There are things I don't like about the new movie, but I love 90% of it. So I am a happy gal.

I was really shocked how much I loved Karl's McCoy, I was a fan of his prior to this from his Xena/Herc work and LoTRs, but I couldn't picture him as Bones. He was amazing. I mean literally nailed the character.

And then Chris, ZQ and Simon had some really big shoes to fill with Kirk, Spock and Scotty. The only one who I am not thrilled with is Scotty. The other actors I loved. Simon just didn't live up to James' portrayal for me.

Uhura was AMAZING!

Chris as Kirk shocked me the most, because even though I still adore Bill Shatner, Chris hit a homerun. I can see him as growing into Shatner's Kirk.

I am very pleased with the movie and how it turned out... now about Vulcan...

I keep forgetting that the destruction of Vulcan was a hard pill to swallow for the fans. Personally, I don't have emotional ties to the characters or old show, and I was spoiled about it going in, so it just seemed like an interesting (if emotionally loaded) plot point.

I've been following the arc of the making of the movie since when it all started. didn't like the idea of it and expected to at least dislike it.

that was before I saw the previews and the clips. they changed my mind sufficiently so that way before the movie opened, I'd changed my mind to at least "positive". after I saw the movie, I was in love.

still, I don't like the destruction of Vulcan save for the drama it provides. I wanted to see more of it dammit!

Apprehensive best describes how I felt going into this. I was wary about a lot of things, but they pulled it off very well. And, accidentally or otherwise, there is some depth to the movie if you watch it in a less-crowded theater and give it your full attention.
The weird thing is how many people on these boards talked about how J.J. likes non-linear storytelling, and there'd be flashbacks, flashforwards, and all kinds of other stuff. Actually, it was a very linear and conventionally told story. That surprised me a bit.

I went in there wanting to like it. I wasn't expecting much, besides a good movie experiance. Afterwards I loved it, it was more then I expected to be.

I have been following this movie with religious devotion since the news was leaked in 06 that another movie was being produced.

I walked away from the movie more than satisfied and loving it more each time I have seen it.

So, count me as one who didn't change my mind.

While I decided to wait and see it before praising or condemning the film outright (I know, what a concept ), I was initially a little wary. Some of the rumoured choices that had been made sounded a little questionable (of course, a number of them turned out to be no more than rumours anyway), I was worried that the film might just be a dumbed-down action movie, and I had mixed feelings after the first real trailer was released (particularly when seeing Nero, who reminded me a bit too much of Shinzon for some reason).

In the month leading up to the movie, though, I started to feel a renewed sense of optimism, thanks to all the positive advance buzz from people who had already seen the film. When I finally saw it on May 8, I was pleased as punch. I certainly don't think it's a perfect film, but it was terrifically entertaining, and at times even moving. So in the end, I guess I wouldn't say I "changed my mind" so to speak, but I did come around after some initial hesitation.

I expected to have fun (as I do whenever I enter the cinema to see a Trek movie). I was not disappointed. I don't hold Trek up to any especially "high art" standards that some others do, so I did not anticipate being disappointed.

Trek, to me, has always been about diverting entertainment. I like Lost, Alias, Fringe and MI-III, so I felt reasonably sure I would like this Abrams production as well. So, no, no changing of my mind.

As soon as I saw the trailer, I had concluded that I wanted no part of this movie. That was upsetting to me because I normally love all things which J.J. Abrams has a hand in creating (the exception being Cloverfield). Well.... Then the positive reviews started pouring in, and many people close to me whose opinions on films I trusted also gave it high praise. So, against my initial judgment, I saw the film anyway..... and then took a friend with me to see it a second time.
