Kirk. I thought the toughest job for casting was finding someone to fill William Shatner's shoes and I think Chris Pine does a credible job of it.

Uhura. She is more prominent than in the original and allowed to access to narrative elements that the previous one never could because of the racism and sexism of the time. Zoe is both sweet and badass I love watching her.
Also Spock , because he has a lot of potential. He kinds of symbolizes to me that 'what if' thing and what it means alternate reality and why it's unpredictable. You have a character who is the same he was in tos, in spirit, but he's also different and might take different paths because things happened to him that never happened to the other. I also think that, in a way, just like for Uhura, the writers are allowed to do with him what they couldn't in the narrative from the 60s and ultimately, I think they can truly 'play' with his human/vulcan conflict in a less stereotyped "he's the weirdo alien" way but more like..he's a person with a dual heritage. There is also the fact that this reality has two Spocks so you are reminded with hin that there are two realities.
Both the original actors approve them, after all ;)
I also love Mccoy by Urban very much. He's just great!
Pike is another favorite of mine!
I also have a soft spot for this Chekov even though we don't see much of him. I wonder if he will start to troll this crew with his 'everthing was invented in russia' mantra like he did in the original LOL

Not a character from tos but I wish they had kept Gaila (Uhura's roommate ) it would be fun to have another alien character beside Spock (keenser seems to be scotty's personal puppy rather than a character )

Granted I had never been a big fan of original Kirk but Chris makes me like him. He stepped into a big role and made it his in his own way but he still subtly has some similarities with Shatner's Kirk.

I think the actors who got to play Spock, Kirk, Mccoy and Uhura probably accepted the most intimidating roles because the old ones and their actors are so iconic..they could never win for many fans.

It's a bit of a cheat to say Kirk is my favorite reimagined character because he's always been my favorite Trek character in the first place. Still, it's Kirk.

As far as something I didn't expect I'd have any strong feelings about one way or the other, I've really enjoyed Pegg's interpretation of Scotty. I'm looking forward to seeing him single-handedly save the universe with one hand tied behind his back in the next movie. :)

Probably Pine as Kirk. Urban as McCoy is great but Pine probably hard the harder job and it would have been easy for his performance to descend into parody.

Greenwood's Pike was pretty sweet, pity he didn't get more to do. (Saldana's Uhura is a close runner-up.)

I love all of them, I swear I wish the cast where in a tv show and we saw them every week.

I like NU MCCOY but I don't like his angst 24/7, it does not work well in film but Urban is great in the role. I hope they ease his dialogue in the next film.

Nu Uhura filling a gender lead role that was missing in TOS is good as well and I hope they make Nu carol another lead female. her character is likeable.

Nu sulu is so bad ass

Nu Kirk is just a blessing to watch

Nu Spock is a class act

Nu Chekov is enduring

Nu Pike was uncannily excellent

Nu Khan was good

Nu Scotty is fun, he is the comic relief that still shows his great intelligence and that is a rare thing for most comic relief in films this days who are just told to act dumb.

I love all the new characters so bring on star trek 3.

Karl Urban as McCoy. I would almost swear De's spirit possessed him for that role.

EDIT: I am going with Karl Urban's Dr. McCoy. He nailed the character.

Yeah I also voted for Urban. While I do not like the prequels I do enjoy Urbans portrayal of McCoy. Basically the only good thing to come out of these NuTrek movies.

Greenwood's Pike was pretty sweet, pity he didn't get more to do. (Saldana's Uhura is a close runner-up.)

Agreed and agreed! I was so glad to get more "Pike" and Mr. Greenwood has always been a fav! I am hoping for more, somehow...although, as BillJ said above to a different point, "...that ship has sailed!"

...or maybe not

My first runner-up was Karl Urban.

True. They could always revive him with "magic blood" or the Genesis project. Star Trek III: The Search for Pike.

Karl Urban as McCoy. I would almost swear De's spirit possessed him for that role.

Didn't Urban say he was more or less channeling De? It'd be silly to think he wasn't having a good time in that role. It rubbed off. McCoy gets some great lines even when his role in the story isn't so big. He was McCoy without being De as McCoy, though he came the closest to doing that of all of them. No way Pine could've played Kirk that close to Shatner's Kirk.

So, nearly twenty posts in, and no love for Keenser, yet?

Chris Pine as Kirk. He's free to do his own thing while occasionally channeling Shatner. His performance in Into Darkness was great. I can't wait to see where his Kirk goes next.

My favorite scene with him is the Brig scene between him and Khan.
