Who is the secret Character?

Sorry if this has been discussed or if everyone seems to know except me, but I just heard that there is a secret charater played by Paul McGillion.

Do we know who it's gonna be? If no, who do you think it's gonna be?

Paul McGillan.

Not to nitpick, but it's McGillion. I only mention it for those who might get momentarily confused trying to IMDB, Google, or Wiki the actor - as I just did.

He'd have been perfect as Scotty, but that's (apparently) not it, and it lists Star Trek at IMDB, but not a role. Hmmm.

my god you have a sharp eye, the dude in the dark grey uniform and cap? wow, how can you recogise him from there? I've watched it 10 times and still can't see it.

...giving birth, I thought it was Amanda Grayson but then remembered Wynona Rider was playing her, then i saw that dude in the back ground and thought he was attacking her, never occoured to me they'ed wanna show Kirk's birth, just a regular human birth.

...I'm pretty sure that the man seen in the same shot as the blond lady is identified in the cast list as 'Starfleet Medical Tech'. McGillion's character seems to be acting as a dispatcher of some sort.

Hmm thanks... looks like we'll just have to wait and see. I'm convinced it's a secret little tie in to ENT what ever his job is. must be something importantish otherwise he'd a never been mentioned. I'm hoping it's just a touch of continuity.

Where was this mentioned, by the way? I don't think I caught it, whatever it was, but McGillion's involvement has been being speculated upon around here since before they announced Pegg's casting as Scotty.

it was a clip from youtube, a women chatting, I suppose it might have been old, they named the cast and showed pictures, and then at the end on the main cast list she said there is also a "Secret character played by Paul McGillion" And showed his picture like the rest. It seemed kind of exciting to me. I haven't been keeping track of the movie that much.

This clip, perhaps? It does make mention of Paul McGillion as a "secret character", but it was uploaded to YouTube back in September and refers to the screening of portions of the movie for Paramount execs as if it were quite recent (going from memory, I'm pretty sure that screening took place in mid-to-late August. [Edit: late July/early August, as it turns out.]) This may have been about the same time McGillion's name first appeared on the cast list at IMDb, but I'm not sure about that; it does sound as if they were trying to make an unnamed character sound a little more interesting and mysterious, in absence of any firm details.

I wouldnt put a whole lot of faith in whats listed in IMDB.
I have a friend who is a working character actor,and alot of his credits get merged in with another person who has almost same first and last name as him(just spelled one letter differently) who has only done small little roles where is says uncredited.
alot of the names of cast and crew are submitted by fans, while they have gotten a bit better with fact checking names and final credits there are still some erronious listings that slip through especially on films that havent yet been released.

so unless its a big A list actor take what you see on IMDB with a grain of salt.

Probably the McGillon character...and he'll probably be an immediate descendant of Archer, Trip or another prominent ENTERPRISE officer. Just to help tie the two eras together and satisfy canon and the more hardcore fans.
