Spoilers Who is the mastermind in Season 3 of Picard?

My assumption is that the big bad is the one speaking through the talking head that becomes Vadic's hand. I don't think it is some other species like the Iconians or Species 8472. I think the talking head is just the leader of the rogue changelings that is using Vadic to carry out their revenge plot.

Well aside from my yet to be debunked Luxwana Troi theory — why not have it be an unknown like the parasite aliens from early TNG? Ends the series on a mystery, the situation is deferred not defeated, and off we go to the next series. Mystery box indeed!

well, the head isn't a changeling just based off the dialogue from the last episode.

Maybe but I am not convinced. The dialogue could be referring to the fact that Vadic is a mutated form of changeling and the head changeling does not see her as the same species anymore. The head changeling might see Vadic as not a "pure changeling".

Boss: Your kind is malleable, easy to bend.

Why would a pure changeling find Vadic more malleable? If anything, she's less malleable as she maintains solid shapes longer (thus the organs, harder to distinguish from solids, etc.)

Psychologically malleable, perhaps.

The head could be representing the other half of Vadic's split personality ... I mean she does come across as a psycho, doesn't she?

Psycho in what way? Experiencing psychosis (auditory or visual)? Experiencing a psychotic break from reality (eh, see less evidence of that). Dissociating from reality?

Spot the cat
Spot's a confirmed changeling, having changed gender and breed midway through TNG. Spot altered Picard's DNA when Picard tried to feed Spot and scratched him. (Maybe Riker who was infamously scratched by Spot in Timescape should check what REALLY killed Thad).

As a telepath, Jack is the only human who can read Spot's mind and know when to feed him/her and pet him/her, etc. That's why Spot wants him, so s/he can have a proper owner this time around when s/he's in cat form. Spot also took Picard's body so s/he can create a more telepathic cat friendly race from Picard's DNA.

Spot got sick of the number of Starfleet officers s/he heard saying they hate cats and prefer dogs. That's why Spot's lining them up for slaughter on Frontier Day. (Spot's been doing this for centuries, having manipulated Scotty to use Porthos as a guinea pig for transwarp beaming) If the crew of the Titan look deeper, they'll find that all Caitian officers are conveniently excused from having to attend Frontier Day festivities.

It meow-ks sense.

I'd hate it, especially if Tasha/Sela is somehow involved, but plenty of people liked episode 6 which for me was the point of fanwank overload. May as well keep piling it on.

As much as I am a huge Tasha Yar fan, I cannot see how they can cameo her as she currently looks nearly 40 years later after her death without messing up continuity or making it seem plausible....

UNLESS.....

They have Armus absorbing the life energy ala Stargate Wraiths of everyone he ever kills on some level. This would weave into the comment "he just sucked the life right out of her" and she has actually been tortured for 40 years inside his head as some undead spirit. That would be a very deep thing to consider that by never killing Armus, Picard allowed Tasha Yar to be tormented within him and the cameo we see is her begging for death.

Probably way off the money but would get around the age issue.

If I'm honest I'm nervous about who/what it will be. This season has definitely been the strongest so far but I am concerned that this will go off the rails in a major way. Like 'The Burn" off the rails.

Like I said, split personality. Like Norman Bates talking to his mother. Only that she is a Changeling, so she cuts off her hand when she feels like talking.

And in this case it might be even more than a simple case of schizophrenia, there really could be another personality inside of her.

My guess is either something connected to Section 31 or the Pah Wraiths. But I don't think the head is a seperate entity, it's only a manifestation of whoever or whatever she is being possessed by.

I'm not sure why anyone would think that Floating Head is Armus or a Pah-Wraith. I mean, what is the payoff for the audience? Especially since there's only three more episodes and absolutely nothing so far has indicated this to be the case?

Vadic's boss sounding male aside, the villain could be Vash. She was in the Gamma Quadrant for quite a while with Q and could've had ties to the Dominion even back then. Maybe the genetic manipulation of Picard and Jack are something she's behind as a trial run on giving humans Q-like powers.

It could, but I feel like a brand new villain would need to have been introduced and explored more by this point in the season so as not to steal the focus. Unless, of course, it's intended to be a new threat for the potential Legacy series, and will still end as somewhat of a mystery in Picard.

I hope they dont do that. Not guaranteed Picard spinoff show or mini series happens. Then we may never find out. I do not want another future guy scenario.
