Who is the competition?

^ those dates are unlikely to even apply in Britain, you realise that? ;)

Yes, but nevertheless I felt an obligation to correct the silly American date formatting. Month before day indeed!

He did say something about "obsessive compulsive nature", though. ;)

I didn't check the other titles, but the date for Star Trek at least seems to be correct.

I am ashamed to say that I am the sort of person who'd go onto wikipedia and change all the American spellings. Or at least, I would, if it wasn't for the ip logging which makes me a little paranoid.

Ahh, mild cases of undiagnosed OCD and paranoia, what every person should have.

I dunno about anyone else, but I'm used to dates being read like this: 23JUN2008.

Although at one point I was kind of nerd-ish, and wrote my dates as such: 200806.23

I think you'll fit right in here. :techman:

^ Hurrah!

However, you can't honestly be saying that the sombrero-wearing posters of the trekbbs are a few thousand cling-film wrapped sandwiches short of a basket that it their collective brain?

(does that cliché'd expression even work in this case? Actually, I don't really care, I got to use cling-film in a sentence. Personal achievement of the day!)

I see Transformers 2 being the mid-summer hit... therefore no danger to Star Trek XI.
Then again, if Speed Racer Meets the Incredible Hulk comes out around May 2009............... :alienblush:

I'm just curious. :) When you say a date out loud, are you more likely to say "June 1st" or are you more likely to say "1st of June"?

1st of June. I think the only time i ever use the other way of saying the date is in reference to 9/11, which I've found confuses the hell out of people as they think that it was the 9th of november so then I have to say September the 11th to clarify things.

It might be nice if we got Trek the same day as America for once. Insurrection and Nemesis, the two films that have come out since my coming online, have both been out in the US before here, and I'd love to be 'in the know' at the same time for this one!

Interesting! In the U.S. I think we're much more likely to say June 1st than we are to say 1st of June, so that's probably how the different writing method started.

I know that there's often a significant difference in when a particular title can first be seen, depending on location. Just for the heck of it, I compared the respective release dates on the movies listed:

Star Trek [UK and Denmark also 8 May; Belgium 6 May; all others listed 7 May except Brazil, which is 12 June]

5/15
Angels & Demons (DaVinci Code Sequel) [Sweden, UK and Brazil also 15 May; Russia, Netherlands and Germany 14 May; France and Belgium 13 May]

5/22
Night at the Museum 2 [Finland also 22 May; Russia and Netherlands 21 May; Belgium, Egypt and France 20 May; no date given for UK]
Terminator Salvation 4 [all other dates 3rd, 4th, 5th (UK) June]

Trek is in good shape as it has a weekend to itself. There is no such thing as getting two weekends without a big movie during the summer.
Emphasis added by me. Textual additions to PTM's post are in brackets.

That's what IMDb has for these. If there's an easy way to work out what else is scheduled for release in the same time-frame, I don't know about it.

^ You can keep Hannah Montana for those extra few days. It will give me the opportunity to acquire a firearm for the london première.
