Who is Paul McGillion playing in the film?

He'll take over the role of Scotty when Simon "Stuntcasting" Pegg shows up on the set too drunk even for Scotty's standards. ;)

I don't see how Simon Pegg is stunt casting. How many people actually know who that guy even is (speaking from a North American POV)? Perhaps he got the role because, oh I don't know, Abrams thought he was the best person for it?

For those who dont know at least, Simon Pegg is a British writer/actor, mainly comedy and the rare straight role. Hes been the lead in Shaun of the Dead and recently Hot Fuzz.

He is a very talented writer and also a very good actor.

Besides, i don't think it was a stunt casting, he has talent and that was what obviously won him the part. I would've liked to see McGillion in the roll though, theres a slight resemblance too, and he is scottish.

Well, technically he is as he was born there, but his family emigrated to Canada when he was two years old.

Though there is a tradition of Canadian actors playing Scottish engineers. ;)

Yep, thats why i posted it. I knew he was, well, a Canadian citizen, but technically a red blooded Scots man.

And yeah, Jimmy was too, so that would've been a nice little nod to him. From a trek fans personal point of view anyways.

Ya know, I just had a thought.

Is it OFFICIAL that Pegg is Scotty? Is it possible that he's playing someone else entirely?

Yeah, it's a reach... but still... I LIKE Pegg. I just don't see him as Scotty. While McGillion looks, sounds, and acts exactly as Doohan's Scotty did... close enough to be a twin, I'd say.

What if Pegg ends up being someone else? For instance (based upon his age) could he be April? (He's closer to my age than he is to Pine's age, after all.)

According to an article at trekmovie.com, Doohan family on Simon Pegg as Scotty Chris Doohan got this email from Pegg.

"I can’t tell you what a thrill it is for me to be cast in this role. Believe me when I say my participation in this film will be a 100% tribute to your Dad and a role that will forever belong to him"

So yeah, it seems pretty official.

Yeah, it does. But there is nothing to stop his role being altered before shooting. This has happened on so many occasions in the movie industry. Im not pissing over anything, itd just be good to see if it is official by means of a spy photo or two.

But, things change.

I said exactly this in another casting thread.

I mentioned that i wont believe any news, well, rumours at this stage, without seeing proof, ie: in uniform and speaking.

To that i got a reply like this;
Classic Fan, it is confirmed as it is written on Trek Today, AICN and StarTrek.com. They are pretty reliable and accurate sources.

*ahem* :guffaw: *ahem*

Im sorry, but even ST.COM isn't the all perfect know-it-all on the interweb. I was expected to take it because it was mentioned in news. I'm sorry, but my brain doesn't work like that.

So, until i see proof that Pegg is actually in the movie, let alone playing scotty, im standing by my logic.

I knew who he was, and I haven't even seen the zombie movie he was in, OR the one parodying Bad Boys.

He's pretty high profile compared with the rest of the cast. I certainly did not know who Chris Pine was.
