Who here uses Blender?

I just downloaded Blender 2.47 last night. I have a book for Blender 2.3 but running through the tutorials brought me to the quick conclusion that there are lots of differences between the two versions. I'd like to find some good tutorials of how to use it. (And so far, I've spent about an hour looking so I imagine there's plenty there) Anyway, I was hoping someone here might have some pointers for tutorials or advice to operate it smoothly. Especially seeing as how I mean to use it for modeling starships rather than character animation.

Thanks!

(P.S. if a moderator or someone can change my thread title from "hear" to "here" I'd appreciate it. I hate that kind of mistake!)

I have Blender 2.3 installed, and the companion book and CD-ROM guide, and plan to start learning how to use it. Hopefully, since it'll be the first 3D app I learn, it won't be as confusing as if I had to compare two different app styles.

Re: Who hear uses Blender?

I've been using Blender since well before it hit open source. I even donated to help release the source code.

And as hard as I try, I barely scratch the surface in using the program's full capabilities. I model, render, and animate with it, and I also do some video editing and compositing using Blender. I'm now getting into rigging, but I stink as an organic modeler.

Re: Who hear uses Blender?

I'm a "longtime newbie" of Blender, meaning that I use it too infrequently to remember most of the UI.

Ryan Dale's character animation tutorials are the best ones I can think of for newbies. They teach you all the basics.

i love blender, mostly because it is a really good way to get into 3d modeling without spending a lot of money. it is one of the best free programs i have because it is so well developed. the only problem is that i am not really experienced enough to find its problems.

I've been using blender for a couple of years now, and I love it (though I still haven't learned how to do UV mapping, which hampers my abilities substantially). It's an awesome program.

I just joined here, after hearing about this BBS over at www.scifi-meshes.com for a long time. There are a lot of great Blender tutorials at SFM, especially ones done by a fellow named Sphynx, entitled "Blender for the faint-hearted".

On YouTube, there are some great video tutorials, but I don't remember any names there. Good luck!
