I'm pissed that the designated captain wasn't revealed. I wonder who would end up the real captain next season, though?

I'm hoping for Saru.
yes i agree. IMHO he's earned it. and it would be great to have a kelpian as a starship captain I'm hoping that we find out more about him andf his people.

I think it is going to be someone well known playing a human, no idea who. I think it could be almost anyone though I don't think it will be a black female since the other major character is that. Number One would be a nifty idea if they want to use a TOS character.

I don't think Isaacs is coming back for season 2 though I would love to be wrong. I don't think it was planned that way, although it could happen if the powers that be are able to negotiate something with him.

I would not at all bet against Isaacs coming back eventually. He was Discovery's biggest asset onscreen AND off. He was an absolute Rockstar in promoting the show. I am sure they would love him to return.

They could cast someone exciting for one season, write in an arc in which Discovery rescues Prime Lorca, then bring him back as Captain in season 3 (presumably after some serious therapy).

Of course I am biased because I loved Isaacs and Lorca but I don't think I am wrong about what a big asset he was. I also think he would do it if he liked the planned story trajectory. He clearly enjoyed the hell out of it.

I hope for Admiral Cornwell, but she is an Admiral.

She could use the vessel as her flagship (similar to Kirk in TWOK), so it’s not out of the question. I’m more curious about how someone whose a physician by trade also had time to develop so many other officer skills. I know that Crusher and Bashir completed bridge officer training, but neither was as well suited for command as Cornwell.

Admittedly, I’ve a huge crush on the admiral, so I’d be happy to see her in any role that gives her more screen time.

So I have to wonder if the line on Saru has gone way up with all the attention Jones has gotten lately. It seems to me there are a lot more people who know who he is now than a month ago.

Being a part of an Oscar 'Best Picture' winning movie will have that effect... ;)

And possibly why they didn’t promote Saru yet and stalled popping a new captain in position. Maybe Pikes accident is why the enterprise is in distress, and Kirk was going to be captain of DSC, but instead will be given Enterprise. Which puts Saru in the DSC job if jones rates aren’t up, but his star power is.

Pike's accident doesn't happen until TOS's first season.

The Starfleet lost many ships and captains. I bet it will be a new captain, just graduated from the Academy or a veteran man like Robert April, who is close to retirement.

The Pike accident happened when he was aboard a trainning vassel, an old ship, after Kirk took his place in the Enterprise.
