Which was a better ending to a comic book series?

I really liked Preacher. I love Ennis' work.

Just how after all this crazy shit, it is about a guy and his girl. Amazing.

Yeah, I know what you mean. One of my favorite parts of Preacher was the relationship between Jesse and Tulip. We can just feel the love and passion between them in their dialogue and scenes with each other.

I love Ennis' work. I know a lot of people just hate his drivel. Too over the top. Too much shock value. But I think of Hitchcock movies when people say that. Hitchcock, would always have a funny scene or light hearted scene before he butchered somebody. You deal with a greater spectrum of emotion.

And just like the Preacher, you have absolute horror, absolute shock, but those quiet moments are just that much more quiter and stands out. Like when Tulip cheats with Cassidy it broke my heart. And the reason why Ennis got away with that is he went so over the top that when he brought it back down your emotions were already all over the place.

Preacher for me the ending was much more statisfying. Don't get me wrong Y's ending was amazing. But Preacher it was like I had a full course meal and I was satisfied. Y's was like coming out of a fancy meal everything was pretty, but the portions were small and you just wanted more. Everything wasn't wrapped up but you expected that.

I only read the first arc of Preacher, but I can't imagine there being a better ending to a series than Y. Just beautiful.

I agree. The ending made me want to cry. It was sad but realistic, providing closure to the characters the fans have been on this five-year journey with.
After reading the final volume of Preacher, I found it a bit unexpected. I don't know how I feel about the ending yet. But I don't think it was a bad ending.

The thing with Y's ending is that I saw too much. I saw too much of the future and how all the pieces fit together. Sort of like Sandman where I enjoy it just ending and my imagination does the rest.

Don't get me wrong Y's ending is just about as perfect as you can get. But the way how preacher ends is just outstanding. You go through all this cosmic, religious overtones and it ends with the guy getting the girl.

BKV and Ennis could do no wrong in my books. Has anybody been reading Ex Machina?

I still haven't read Y, so I can't make any comparisons.

But I loved the end of Preacher. For all the weirdness and over-the-top shockery that characterized that series (and don't get me wrong--I love Ennis' outrageousness), at the core of it all are the very human, very fully-realized characters and their journeys, and I was very satisfied with how it played out. Jesse and Tulip got to ride off into the sunset together (and how else could they possibly end up), Cassidy got a second chance at life and redemption, and the Saint did what he set out to do and finally got a chance to be at rest.

I think Cass' ending affected me the most, though. He was such a loveable bastard that I truly hated to learn all the depths to which he'd sunk, and the fact that he got the chance to grow up and live life as a man in the end really made me happy. A great redemption story.

that's why I love Ennis' work so much. I much when he writes about War Stories. He just skips the outrageousness and keeps the human aspect.
